Brophy Prep's high school basketball program has consistently performed at a high level and been one of the top programs in the state each season. Under the leadership of terrific Head Coach Matt Hooten, the program has sustained a winning culture, which led to a runner-up 6A State Championship finish last season. After losing a lot to graduation, the program will look to win it all next season with a younger core of players. A key leader for the success of next year's team will be 6-foot-3 rising junior guard Ayden Madi. Madi is on the rise as a player and as a college prospect, and will be a major key to Brophy's success going forward.
The younger brother of former Brophy Prep standout Arman Madi (Northern Arizona signee), Ayden is a much different prospect than his brother. Ayden has not reached the height of his brother yet, and he makes up for his lack of true height with toughness and a gritty defensive-style that allows him to play aggressive on both ends of the floor. This aggressiveness by Ayden is a glaring attribute for his performance, as he gets a lot done on the court, as a result of his tenacity and the physical nature he plays with.
Ayden had a very good sophomore season for Brophy Prep (24-9), and then had a good performance throughout the spring while traveling with a very talented UH Elite UAA Rise 16U team on the Under Armour Circuit. Madi's performance this spring and during his sophomore season, led him to make an introduction into our new player rankings for the 2025 Class, and he is one prospect that could continue to see a rise in the rankings with continued strong performances and hard work. The group of prospects in the 2025 Class are loaded with Division-I prospects, and Madi's no-nonsense focus and approach to the game could elevate him in our next player rankings with a strong summer performance.
Currently, Madi does not possess a scholarship offer to his credit, but he is still young and developing, so college programs will be there for him, it is just a matter of time. In the meantime, Madi is working hard on his body and skillset to maximize his potential as a player.
Madi is a good looking college prospect. His future college recruitment will depend heavily on need for college programs, as he is a combo-guard prospect with a good overall feel for the game. He is capable of playing both guard positions on the floor, but is at his best as a scorer, where he is able to make shots from the perimeter and also drive hard to the basket and finish in the lane. He relishes physical contact, and does not mind giving up his body to win games, as he plays with a purpose. I would like to see him develop his mid-range game more, as that would be a very good addition to his offensive package. He is a good ball handler and passer that sees the floor, and pushes the ball up the court. He is an active rebounder for his size and rebounds outside of his area on the floor. He is a very good defender that competes hard and has quick hands, and is able to play passing lanes.
Madi will team up with 6-foot-3 rising senior guard Braeden Speed, 6-foot-4 rising sophomore Daylen Sharper and a host of young talented performers next season to give Brophy Prep one of the top lineups in the state next season again. This team will be very intriguing among the state's top teams.
I will continue to follow Madi closely as a player and as a college prospect, and look forward to keeping you updated as his college recruitment begins to take off.
