The girls Division-I state championship game should feature a match-up of a pair of terrific smaller point guards, as Dobson’s 5-foot-6 senior guard Dyesha Stahley led her Dobson program to a 59-52 semi-final win Friday evening at Grand Canyon University over a gritty Liberty team. Stahley overcame an early injury to her knee to return in the game Friday evening in the second half, amidst cheers from the Dobson fans. Stahley would help Dobson (29-2) overcome a 28-23 halftime lead by Liberty (28-4) to win the game, 59-52 – advancing to the state championship game. Dobson seniors, Alexis Todd, Shamara…

Corona Del Sol High School (32-1) is destined to win their fourth-straight Division-I state championship this season, but their chances looked a little bit shaky on Wednesday evening after a late surge by Central High School (25-7) at Wells Fargo Arena. Corona is not very deep at all, as terrific head coach Sam Duane Jr. does not go very deep into his bench and has not all season long. The effects of exhaustion began to wear down the Aztecs late in the game on Wednesday, but their fresh legs and loads of talent early in the game were enough to hold…

The third time this season was a charm for Central High School (25-5) against a talented and athletic Cesar Chavez (26-4) team. After losing twice to Chavez this season, Central would get a late inspired effort to defeat Chavez 61-55 in the second round of this year’s Division-I state playoffs. In front of a very nice crowd, which included members of the coaching staffs from several different local junior college programs in the state, Central and Chavez would look to present a very athletic contest, as both teams feature many gifted prospects. With excitement filling the room before the game,…
South Mountain Junior College (15-14, 9-12) is playing well as of late, as winners of their last two games. But South needed a win against visiting Pima Junior College (18-11, 10-11) on Saturday evening to improve their position in the conference playoffs in a week. Pima also needed a win after losing their last contest at Central Arizona on Wednesday. Despite another strong scoring output from their star 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Ben Gershman, who would finish with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, South Mountain would overcome a halftime deficit to Pima to win the contest in front of…
Planet Athlete Academy 6-foot-3 senior guard prospect Sammy Thompkins has been one of the more underrated guard prospects in the country for some time. After having a very strong spring and summer performance last club season, Thompkins was considered as the state’s best individual player early in the high school season, as he torched his opponents with numerous scoring outbursts. But Thompkins’ career would take a winding twist early in the season, when he was released from the Vikings’ basketball team by head coach Ray Portela. As a result, Thompkins has had to pick up his basketball career with Planet Athlete Academy this…
Corona Del Sol High School’s 6-foot-10 freshman post prospect Marvin Bagley is already the best prospect ever in the state of Arizona. While only time will tell if he actually develops into the prospect we all think he will become, he is already a ridiculous basketball prospect with amazing potential for the future. This season, Bagley has been amazing – helping lead his three-time defending state champion Aztecs to another almost perfect season thus far (28-1). Bagley has put up impressive numbers all season, and has become the state’s biggest attraction, for fans in the state and outside of it.…
