On Thursday evening I had an opportunity to attend open gym at Corona Del Sol amidst many college coaches, while watching rising superstar 6-foot-2 junior guard Alex Barcello perform in an open gym with his Corona teammates. Barcello looked terrific on the evening and proved why this season will be an epic one for him. Barcello looked physically impressive on the evening, as he showcased his very athletic frame. Gilbert High School’s 6-foot-7 senior wing Chris Bowling needed a strong performance this club season to boost his college recruitment, and he was up for the challenge. Bowling would have numerous strong performances on the summer club circuit, including a big performance in the championship game of the Pangos Sweet 16, as he would lead his club program, the Arizona Magic Elite, to the tournament championship with a gutty performance. No prospect in Arizona’s 2016 class helped themselves more this club season than Sunrise Mountain High School’s talented 6-foot-6 senior wing Elijah Thomas. Thomas absolutely blew up this after several strong performances. As a result, Thomas has seen his college recruitment soar as of late. I caught up with Thomas’ club coach Kenny Mullins of the Arizona Magic Elite this week and he advised me that Thomas is currently receiving loads of division-I interest. The 2018 class in the state of Arizona looks to be a very special class already, especially with super nationally acclaimed prospect Marvin Bagley in the group.
