Now that we have completed both of our events for this year's 24th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, for boys and girls teams in the state, we will now select this year's Showcase Most Valuable Players for both events. While both events are team events and showcase some of the best teams in the state, we like to and have always selected a Most Valuable Player award at the completion of each event.
This year's Most Valuable Player selection for the Arizona Preps Boys Fall Showcase is Eduprize Prep's talented 6-foot-8 senior wing Jahki Gupton.
Eduprize Prep is very talented again this season, and are among the favorites to win the CAA Open Division Championship this season, although the list of teams in this division will be very loaded with talent. The team will be led again by Gupton and top-rated guard prospect AJ Thomas, who was among the state's leading scorers last season.
Gupton is a sure-fire Division-I prospect that has seen his college recruitment begin to take off as of late, as he has received an offer from Central Michigan and will soon be receiving one from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. He is worthy of many more offers, and should be one of the top recruited prospects in the state for the spring, if he decides to wait until the late signing period.
Gupton has been one of my favorite prospects now for some time, and I have been waiting for his college recruitment to begin to take shape also for some time. Gupton is one of my favorite sleeper prospects as a result of his extreme length, upside and promise for the future. While he still needs to add size to his very thin frame, he has a nice skillset and enough upside to suggest that he will become a superb talent over time. Gupton is a skilled and lengthy wing prospect that can score from the perimeter or while slashing to the basket and finishing. He is good in the open floor and has good overall versatility in the half court set. Gupton is also a good defender that gets into the passing lanes and deflects passes. He has a good motor that he plays with also that will benefit him nicely as he develops as a player.
Gupton's best asset is that he can guard multiple positions on the floor. He has a good overall skill level and athleticism, and has a very high ceiling overall. This young man could be ranked even higher in our next player rankings with continued growth and development. Either way, he is a sure fire talent with excellent promise for the future and is an excellent sleeper prospect for a Division-I program.
For his performance in this year's event, we have selected Jahki Gupton as our 2022 Arizona Preps Boys Fall Showcase Most Valuable Player. Congratulations to him and his teammates, and good luck this high school season from our Arizona Preps' staff.
