While it has taken some time for us to release our annual Player of the Year nominations in each region of the state of Arizona, here are our selections for these honors, as selected by our amazing and hard-working Arizona Preps staff. We will select our Player(s) of the Year for boys and girls high school basketball in the state of Arizona. Each of our selections will include our top performers throughout the state for the AIA, CAA and prep school divisions, as each selection by our staff will encompass each division for consideration. Here is this year's 2023 selections for our Players of the Years for girl's basketball in the state of Arizona by our Arizona Preps' staff.
We continue with our girls 2023 Arizona Preps Player of the Year - Desert Vista High School's unique 6-foot-1 freshman Jerzy Robinson. Robinson was selected by our Arizona Preps' staff after a terrific freshman season where she took the state by storm and performed at a high level all high school season - leading her Desert Vista High School program to an impressive 28-4 record on the season, and this year's Open Division State Championship.
Robinson will become an absolute national star in the sport over time, as she will soon be regarded as the top overall prospect in America's list of girl's prospects, regardless of class. She already holds that distinction by many national scouting services currently. As a mere freshman for Head Coach Dave Williams this past high school season, Robinson averaged 22 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2 steals per/contest on a loaded Desert Vista ball club. Robinson already possesses offers from such programs as UCLA, Alabama, Ohio State, Arizona State, Arizona, Texas A &M, Georgetown and Oklahoma, to name a few.
Jerzy possesses an impressive skill-set, elite athleticism and a very high basketball IQ. Jerzy works hard on both sides of the ball, where she can easily attack the rim with her speed, and the ability to defend all positions on the court. She is a unique-level talent with excellent size, physical strength and an advanced skillset , which suggests that she will become a future WNBA star in the future and a hot commodity for college programs across the country in the process.
Jerzy credits her strong relationship with God as the reason why she is able to handle the spotlight at a very young age, with the amount of attention she is receiving. Jerzy attends the CCV Church, and she approaches every game with the saying, “Trust in the Lord and always bring your A-game."
Jerzy credits the support of her parents (Taryn and Darnell) as another big influence in how she is able to play in the spotlight.
“My parents introduced me to discipline at a very young age,” said Robinson.
The future for Jerzy Robinson is glaring as it has been rumored that she will move to the state of California next fall to attend Sierra Canyon High School (CA) next fall. If this is the case, we were blessed to watch her perform during a freshman season that will be remembered for many years to come.
Congratulations to her, her family and the Desert Vista basketball program on receiving another honor for herself in a freshman season that was one of the ages.
