Hillcrest Prep recent transfer, 6-foot-11, 250-pound 4-star post Antwan January recently transferred from Santa Monica High School in Los Angeles, CA, and now will anchor a loaded lineup at Hillcrest this season. Just as fast as he has arrived and played for the Hillcrest program, he has picked up recruiting steam for himself. This week, the large and gifted post prospect received two more offers to go with his already nice and long list of college suitors.
While already possessing offers from Florida State, Texas Tech, Fresno State, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Kansas State and Boise State, January has now reeled in two more high-major conference offers for himself, as Illinois and TCU both have now offered January.
After sitting out recently with an injury, January took to the floor this past weekend for Hillcrest Prep in the first weekend of the competitive National Prep Circuit. Organized by Michael Clark, the event was loaded with top-notch talent from all over the West, and even included a team from Minnesota, Minnesota Prep (MN). January was very impressive this weekend in the event, displaying excellent size and length, combined with very good lateral movement and agility. He played very big and showed serious overall talent as a post prospect.
The state is now filled with numerous available bigs for the senior class, and January is one of numerous division-I post prospects that will be available in the state this spring. Joining January as highly sought after post recruiting targets are 7-foot-3 senior Chol Marial (AZ Compass Prep), 7-foot-1 senior Rick Issanza (Bella Vista Prep), 6-foot-11 senior Jimmy Bell (Bella Vista Prep), 6-foot-9 senior Dischon Thomas and 6-foot-10 senior Emmanuel Tshimanga (Bella Vista Prep) - making for an exciting spring of college recruiting.
January recently visited Washington State on an official recruiting visit, and he looks to be still be in the process of deciding on more recruiting visits for himself.
I will continue the recruitment of January closely, and bring you any recruiting updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: January is a load and one of the top post prospects in the country - possessing numerous high-major division-I offers already for himself. He will add some serious size and toughness to any college program, as he is one of the bigger and more talented post prospects in the country. January is a force in the paint and has a strong ability to score in the post, while also being dominant on the glass. Very few high school prospects have his combination of size and strength, which makes him a valuable commodity among college coaches. He also has good toughness as a player and is very mobile and agile for his size - possessing good overall athleticism. A strong finisher around the basket and keeps balls alive for second-chance opportunities. Runs the floor hard and is a good finisher in transition. An active rebounder. A very good shotblocker with very good timing. Has a bright future ahead of him.
