In case you missed our "Commitment Party" for Southern Arizona Prep's 6-foot-7 senior post Achol Magot @ this year's Arizona Preps Girls Fall Showcase, it was an exciting and congratulatory event, as Magot made her college selection - electing to give a verbal commitment to Texas Tech University and their coaching staff.
Magot made her decision for Texas Tech over offers from San Jose State and McNeese State. Texas Tech was the first program to offer the developing post player - a nice high-major offer while she did not have any. It was almost frustrating that a prospect with Magot's size, work ethic and potential did not receive many more offers, but many of Arizona's girl's top prospects still remain under recruited, as our staff looks to improve the overall recruitment for girl's prospects in the state.
Magot emerged with our staff at last year's Arizona Preps Fall Showcase event, so it was only fitting that she give her commitment at the same event. Arizona Preps' own George Courtney (GC3 Hoops) was very instrumental in aiding the recruitment of Magot, as well as her Head Coach Vince Lombardi, who is an excellent coach and mentor to his players.
Magot is a rare find among post players in the country, as she has excellent physical size and runs the floor hard and has good overall agility for her size. She has solid hands and feet and is still growing a great deal into her large frame, so she has some serious upside for the future. She rebounds hard and plays with good intensity and aggression. While she is still raw offensively, she is developing a great deal and plays her position, as a true post player that plays big. Magot's size alone is very impressive, and the fact that she runs the floor very well and can catch the ball and finish strong around the basket, are glaring attributes. She is very intriguing and has serious upside for the future.
Magot's best years are well ahead of her and I believe she will blossom over time, especially under a Division-I strength and conditioning program. She is also a fine young lady with a great smile and personality.
Congratulations to Achol and her teammates, as well as the Southern Arizona Prep program on her amazing commitment at this year's Fall Showcase event.
