ACCAC Conference Update, Eastern Arizona & Chandler-Gilbert Still Lead, Players of the Week

With the junior college basketball season starting to wind up, as we get towards the end to conference play soon, Eastern Arizona Junior College (18-4, 11-0) continues to lead the conference among Division-I programs, while Chandler-Gilbert Junior College (19-2, 12-2) still holds on to the lead among Division-II college programs in the conference, with Pima CC (18-3, 10-3) in a close second. South Mountain Junior College 6-foot-4 sophomore Jaylen Wesley continues to lead the conference in both scoring and rebounding - averaging 26.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per/contest.

Here are the current and recent Players of the Week in the ACCAC, as selected by the coaches in the conference this season . . .

ACCAC D-I Player of the Week - Jordan Hernandez – Cochise – Hernandez led the Apaches to a pair of wins over Yavapai, scoring 24 points. Hernandez scored 14 points in the Apaches win over the Roughriders, going 5-for-9 from the field and recording six assists. Hernandez finished the weekend with a 10-point performance - recording a triple-double, grabbing 11 rebounds and tallying 10 assists.

ACCAC D-I Player of the Week - Dallon Morgan – Eastern Arizona – Morgan helped the Gila Monsters to a weekend sweep of Arizona Western, averaging 13 points per game and hitting seven three-pointers in the two games. Morgan scored 11 points in the Gila Monsters’ 77-68 win, then Morgan topped that performance with 15 points on 5-of-10 from the three-point line in Eastern Arizona’s 79-77 overtime win over Arizona Western on Saturday.

ACCAC D-II Player of the Week - Cohenj Gonzales – Pima – Gonzales set a season-high en route to his first Player of the Week honor of the season. Gonzales scored 44 points in a pair of games last week to help the Aztecs to two wins. Gonzales started the week with 18 points, hitting six three-pointers, in a big 83-64 win over Chandler-Gilbert. Gonzales set his new season-high in the second game of the week, scoring 26 points on 8-for-13 from the three-point line in a 107-72 win over Phoenix. Gonzales also recorded six steals in the win over the Bears.

ACCAC D-II Player of the Week - Lachi McKain – Chandler-Gilbert – McKain averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest in the Coyotes’ two wins last week. McKain scored 15 points and had four rebounds in an 85-80 win over South Mountain on the road, before scoring 18 points and grabbing seven boards in Chandler-Gilbert’s 92-84 win over Scottsdale on Saturday. In the two games, McKain went 9-for-12 from the three-point line, tying a season-high in threes with five in the win over South Mountain.
