In case you missed it, former Arcadia High School 2012 graduate Larry Lewis has made his future college decision - electing to sign with a rising Big-West program that reached the NCAA Tournament last season.  After a big sophomore season at Odessa Junior College in Texas, where he was selected as an All-Conference selection in one of the nation's top junior college conferences, Lewis has decided to sign a national letter of intent with the University of Hawaii.

Lewis becomes Hawaii's sixth prospect for the class of 2016-17.   In his only season at Odessa in 2015-16, Lewis averaged 11.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 49.1 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three-point range (48-of-118). For his efforts, Lewis earned First-Team All-Conference honors and helped Odessa to a Region V championship and an appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.

"Larry brings a great deal of experience to our program," UH head coach Eran Ganot said.  "He is a versatile player who loves to compete and lives in the gym and weight room.  Larry comes from a very good community college program, where he recently was a part of a championship and we also expect him to bring a championship mentality to our program."

Prior to Odessa, Lewis attended Texas-San Antonio for two seasons - redshirting in 2013-14 and appearing in 24 games, with seven starts in 2014-15.  During that season, Lewis averaged 4.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game and shot 41.2 percent from the field.  He started the first seven games with five double-figure scoring games, while averaging 26.9 minutes played during that stretch.

Regarded as one of the state of Arizona's top prospects out of Westwind Prep Academy, Lewis averaged 21 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game in 2012-13.

Lewis was a four-year starter at Arcadia High School and led the school to the Division-II state semifinals as a senior when he averaged 23.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, and was selected as the state's Division-II Player of the Year and Section III Player of the Year.  As a junior at Arcadia, Lewis averaged 25.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game and led the school to a 26-2 mark and state quarterfinal appearance.  He was named the All-East Sky Region Player of the Year.

Lewis joins a class that includes guards Drew Buggs, Leland Green and Matthew Owies, wing Noah Allen and forward Zigmars Raimo.

Lewis will join the University of Hawaii this fall with a heavy heart, after his former head coach at UTSA, Brooks Thompson, passed away recently.

Congratulations Larry from our staff here at Arizona Preps on his hard work and dedication to the game, and making a way for himself after transferring schools.
