One of the most underrated guard prospects in the country has made his college decision. Gabe Spinelli, a 6-foot-3 athletic guard and transfer from Chicago State University, has signed a national letter of intent with Central Connecticut State University. Spinelli will play for Head Coach Patrick Sellers in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and is expected to make an immediate impact.
Spinelli had a strong junior season at Chicago State, averaging 9.5 points and 3.2 assists per game, while shooting 38.5% from three-point range. He posted several standout performances, including a big 20 point performance on the road against the University of Illinois. His ability to create off the dribble, stretch the floor with his shooting, and defend at a high level has made him one of the most complete guards in the portal this year.
A native of the East Coast, Spinelli returns closer to home with the move to Central Connecticut. Known for his NBA-level athleticism and tenacity, Spinelli is regarded as one of the toughest and best defensive guards in the country. His quickness, strength, and on-ball pressure make him a nightmare for opposing backcourts. Offensively, he is a skilled playmaker who thrives in transition and knows how to run a team effectively.
Off the court, Spinelli is an excellent student with a 3.5 CUM GPA and is majoring in finance - showcasing his dedication and discipline in both academics and athletics.
Spinelli had strong interest from numerous Division-I programs during the transfer process, but ultimately chose Central Connecticut for its coaching staff, winning culture, and opportunity to lead. With the tools and mindset to contribute immediately, he is poised for a breakout season in the NEC.
Look for Gabe Spinelli to lead the Blue Devils in their pursuit of a conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Gabe Spinelli is the son of former Chicago State University Head Coach and longtime D-I assistant Scott Spinelli.
