Arizona is a hot-bed for basketball talent. We all have seen the numerous talented prospects on the boys' end. However, there is just as much, if not more talent on the girls' side. One of the most exciting prospects I have been able to observe is Casteel High School's 5-foot-10 senior guard/forward Daeja Johnson. She is a big-time prospect with (11) offers from numerous D-2-NAIA schools. I think those colleges would make out like bandits if they were able to sign her, since I truly feel she is a Low to Mid-Major D-1 prospect.
She is one of the go-to players of the #1 ranked team in the 5A Division. Currently she is averaging 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 4.1 steals per/game. She showed an elite scoring ability at all (3) levels. She also has an ability to score with both hands. Johnson is a very aggressive player on both ends, and can defend all (5) positions.
My favorite part about her is she is selfless. She never hesitates to give up a good shot for a greater shot, by passing to an open teammate.
She thrives in Coach Dan Trageser’s up-tempo system. The Lady Colts look to apply 94 feet of heat by pressing and trapping their opponents to disrupt their offensive rhythm. His team looks to fill transition lanes and move the ball at a quick pace. Johnson is a difference-maker, and I am confident she will lead her team to a deep playoff run.
Arizona Preps is excited to cover Girls Basketball. Casteel is one of the teams to look out for in 5A, as they have (8) players who have college interest and offers. Coach Dan Trageser has a done a phenomenal job building his program and we look forward to their playoff run.
