Westwind Prep Academy 6-foot-7, 230-pund prep forward Terry Winn has found a new home. After giving a verbal commitment to Northern Arizona in high school and then de-committing from the Lumberjacks' program, Winn has now decided on a new college program for himself. On Wednesday evening, Winn decided to give a verbal commitment to UTEP and head coach Tim Floyd and his men's basketball staff.
Floyd and his staff had ventured to the state of Arizona several times to visit the Westwind program to observe talented senior prospect Lyrik Shreiner, and came away impressed with Winn - enough to offer a scholarship to the talented forward prospect.
Winn is a tough and aggressive combo-forward prospect with a strong body physically and a nice motor. While still developing his perimeter skills, Winn is at his best in the post where he is able to utilize his strength and athleticism to overpower opposing post players. He is a prototypical 3/4 prospect that is able to score inside and out and also rebound effectively at either position.
Winn will led the Westwind Prep post-grads this season against other top prep school programs in the West, and also against local junior colleges – preparing him for college competition in the future.
He recently completed the SAT and has achieved an NCAA qualifying test score. He is still enrolled in classes at Grand Canyon University, while attending Westwind Prep Academy. Winn will sign with UTEP this spring during the late signing period.
Congratulations to Winn on his new commitment from our Arizona Preps' staff.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Winn is a tough and aggressive combo-forward prospect with a strong body physically and a nice motor. Still developing his perimeter skills, Winn is at his best in the post, but is able to step outside and shoot the basketball from 15 to 18 feet – a very good mid-range player. Has good low-post moves and good footwork. Has excellent toughness. He is an active rebounder that gets very good inside position, and is also a strong finisher inside the paint. Good overall defender. Solid passer. Capable ball handler. Good shot-blocker.
