With the late spring signing period upon us, there are numerous junior college prospects still available for college programs to take a hard look at over the next couple months. While some of these prospects may already be off the recruiting board, here are my top overall sophomore prospects still available late (in no particular order) . . .
Rashaad Goolsby 6-6 SOPH SF/PF Phoenix College (Phoenix, AZ)
Goolsby is a very long and rangy prospect that has an ability to score around the basket and from mid-range. He is a left handed performer, which makes him a very intriguing prospect. An OK shooter from longer ranges – shoots a high percentage around the paint. A solid ball handler. A solid passer. A good offensive rebounder. A good shotblocker and has the length to play the passing lanes. A solid defender. A good sleeper prospect for a smaller college program. Selected as the ACCAC Player of the Year this junior college season.
Davon Bolton 6-1 SOPH PG/SG Eastern Arizona JC (Thatcher, AZ)
A native of Seattle, Washington where he attended Cleveland HS (WA). A quick and explosive guard prospect with an excellent perimeter shooting stroke with range and a quick release , which he gets off effectively. Very quick off the dribble and gets anywhere he wants on the floor, and capitalizes at a high rate – shooting an excellent percentage from the floor. A very good ball handler and passer that sees the floor, but likes to score the basketball. A scoring point guard. Pushes the basketball up the floor. A good defender with very good lateral quickness. A very good on-the-ball defender. A good rebounder for his size.
Kendrick Williams 6-0 SOPH PG Chandler-Gilbert JC (Chandler, AZ)
A well-built guard. Hhas the ability to use a quick burst of speed to get by defenders and get to the basket, where he thrives off finishing through contact and converting on difficult shots. Williams also has the ability to get hot in a hurry from outside, as he can rattle off many 3-pointers in a row, if left open and given time and space. He also excels in transition, as he likes to push the ball out and get a quick score for him or one of his teammates - if they are open to score. Has excellent overall toughness as a player, and passion on both ends of the court. Williams also has the ability to be a solid floor general on the court, as he looks for his teammates as much as he seeks his own shot. A very good ball handler and passer. An excellent rebounder for his size, and among the top returning rebounders in the conference. Makes players on the floor better. An excellent sleeper prospect.
Maurice Walton 6-9 SOPH C Chandler-Gilbert JC (Gilbert, AZ)
Walton (pictured) is a true big post player that plays very big and turned in his best performance to date this weekend. Walton previously lost 70+ pounds since high school and he has developed a great deal over the past year. Walton runs the floor hard and makes plays on both ends of the floor. He has excellent size and strength, and has a nice overall skillset. I really like this young man's potential for the future. An intriguing prospect. Has excellent potential and the more he loses weight, the higher his ceiling becomes.
Kevin Biggs 6-4 SOPH SG Pima Junior College (Tucson, AZ)
A very athletic shooting guard prospect with a high motor and nice bounce off the floor. A very good slasher and finisher in the open floor. A very good athlete. Has a pure shooting stroke with excellent range on his shot. A good ball handler and passer. Plays with good overall intensity. An active rebounder. A solid all-around prospect that is worthy of Division-I consideration. Led Pima to a runner-up Division-II national championship.
Isaiah Murphy 6-4 SOPH SG Pima JC (Tucson, AZ)
A skilled wing prospect that likes to slash and finish and has very good overall athleticism as a player. Capable of playing the shooting guard position or as a small forward. A good shooter with range on his shot and a quick release. A very good slasher and finisher in traffic and in the open floor. Very good in the open court. A good ball handler and passer that can make plays for himself and others off the dribble. An active rebounder that rebounds outside of his area on the floor. A good defender that plays passing lanes. A good looking sleeper prospect. Helped lead Pima JC to a Division-II runner-up national championship.
Matt Morgan 6-8 SOPH PF/C South Mountain JC (Phoenix, AZ)
Morgan is a strong low post prospect with good potential for the future. Watching Morgan, I am very impressed with this young man's ability to run the floor and finish strong at the rim. Morgan is an athletic 4-man post talent that has good potential, but he has yet to realize that potential. An enigma of sorts. Needs improved work ethic to realize his true potential. Has upside.
Danny Garrick 6-6 SOPH SG/SF Central Arizona JC (Phoenix, AZ)
Garrick is a nice athletic wing prospect with an excellent shooting stroke and a nice body for a big-time shooter. Garrick has excellent size and a quick release on his shot that allows him to get his shot off quite nicely and from anywhere on the floor. Impressive in his ability to make shots from deep. A specialist. His size and ability to shoot the basketball are glaring attributes. He is also able to make plays off the dribble, but he is a specialist.
Adonis Arms 6-6 SOPH SF Mesa Junior College (Mesa, AZ)
Arms is a long, rangy wing prospect with a nice feel for the game and an ability to make plays for himself and others off the dribble. An excellent finisher in the open floor and a very good slasher. Arms is a nice talent. I have been very impressed with this young man's development over the past couple years, as he has worked very hard on his game - developing now into a serious college recruit. He is very long and rangy and is a two-way player that plays both sides of the court. An intriguing prospect.
Lavette Parker 6-1 SOPH SG Phoenix College (Phoenix, AZ)
Parker is one of the best shooters in the ACCAC Conference. A potential combo-guard prospect that is at his best from the shooting guard position, since he likes to take three-point shot attempts as the basis for his offensive repertoire. Has good range on his shot and a quick release. Parker can get hot in a split-second, and really knocks down shots from anywhere (thrives hitting shots off screens). He also can push the ball well in transition and can finish at the rim after taking some bumps. A solid ball handler and passer. Parker also has a nice frame on him, and can really defend well when he is engaged.
Jacob Inclan 6-3 SOPH SF/PF South Mountain Junior College (Phoenix, AZ)
Inclan does not have a true position on the floor, and plays like a very undersized power forward. He is a good mid-range shooter of the basketball and has good range on his shot. A solid ball handler and passer. A strong finisher around the basket. A very strong rebounder that rebounds much bigger than his size suggests. Has excellent toughness as a player. An excellent sleeper prospect.
Austin Denham 6-3 SOPH SG Scottsdale Junior College (Scottsdale, AZ)
One of the best shooters in the ACCAC conference, and may be the conference’s best overall shooter of the basketball. A shooting-guard prospect that is at his best catching and shooting the basketball, which he can do from almost anywhere on the floor. Has good range on his shot and a quick release. Shoots a good percentage from either the field or three-point distance. A good finisher when he decides to get to the basket. A solid ball handler and passer. A good sleeper prospect.
Bryan Urrutia 6-1 SOPH PG/SG Cochise Junior College (Douglass, AZ)
Urrutia is a very skilled shooting guard prospect with a pure shooting stroke and a nice overall feel for the game. A very good looking kid and prospect. I really like Urrutia's ability to shoot the basketball with unlimited range on his shot and an ability to make plays off the dribble. Urrutia has a very strong physical frame and an ability to also get to the basket and finish strong at the rim. I like this young man's potential for the future, and also his ability to play both guard positions on the floor.
Derek Danzler-Fulner 6-3 SOPH SG Chandler-Gilbert JC (Chandler, AZ)
A skilled guard prospect with a good overall feel for the game. Capable of playing both guard positions on the floor, but is at his best scoring the basketball. A good penetrator and finisher in the lane. Good in the open floor. A good shooter with range on his shot. An active rebounder that rebounds much bigger than his size suggests. A good overall defender.
Rees Plummer 6-5 SOPH SF/PF Phoenix College (Phoenix, AZ)
Plummer is a skilled combo-forward prospect that is able to play both forward positions on the floor. His skill level allows him to play with his back to the basket and also to go out on the perimeter and make plays for himself as well. Plummer is a mis-match for most opposing forwards, as he can score around the basket with a nice, left-handed touch and also shoot the basketball effectively from the perimeter with a quick release. He is also able to put the basketball on the floor and make plays for himself and others - a nice attribute. He is also a very good athlete for his size and gets off the floor well. He is also a very good finisher around the paint and against bigger defenders. A good sleeper prospect.
