Tolleson High School's 5-foot-7 junior combo-guard prospect Shaylin Heredia has helped lead her team to a strong 2011-2012 season.
Tolleson is off to a 19-6 overall record on the season and an impressive 11-1 record in their league - the I Section I girls basketball standings.
Heredia is a major reason for the team's success, as she is putting up very good numbers as a junior - 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.2 steals per/game.
Heredia's ability and nice skill level have helped the Tolleson team to have a nice scoring balance.
On a team that includes a superb senior duo of 5-foot-6 senior point guard Desiree Smith (16.5 ppg, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.4 steals per/game) and 5-foot-8 senior wing Briana White (12.5 ppg & 4.8 rebounds) - Heredia has still found room to contribute a great deal.
Shaylin is also coming off a strong performance in last year's 2011 Arizona Preps Fall Showcase. In the event, Shaylin was selected among the top 20 overall girl's prospects in the event - being selected for the Top 20 All-Star Game in the event.
Heredia is a nice looking combo-guard prospect with a very good handle of the basketball and excellent court vision, allowing her to be capable of running the point guard position on the floor. She makes good decisions with the basketball and keeps her head up on the dribble.
As a scorer, Heredia has a nice shooting stroke and is capable of knocking down shots fro mthe perimeter with solid range. Extending her range on her shot will help her to become a much better prospect in the future. She is an effective scorer off the dribble and is capable of creating her own shot and finishing, although continued work on her footspeed will aid her in the future.
She is a good on the ball defender and is fundamentally sound defensively. A good team defender. Continued focus in this area of her game will also improve her as a player and a prospect.
Shaylin is still a very underrated college prospect, and this spring and summer she looks to play for a talented Arizona Elite club team and increase her college prospects.
Keep an eye out for this girl prospect among Arizona's top 2013 prospects.
