While it was not a surprise, it is still a major announcement, as Dream City Christian Prep's superstar 6-foot-5, 215-pound senior wing Shaedon Sharpe has decided to end his college recruitment before the fall signing period, and without taking each of his official recruiting visits - electing to give a huge verbal commitment to legendary Head Coach John Calipari and the University of Kentucky.
Sharpe is among the very elite prospects in America's 2022 Class, as he is rated by many national scouting services and also ESPN as the #1 overall prospect in the class. The previous #1 ranked prospect was Emoni Bates, who decided to leave high school a year early to sign with Memphis. As a result, Sharpe has moved into the top overall spot in America, and now his big commitment to the University of Kentucky will solidify his top overall spot, in preparation for a huge senior season for the gifted prospect on The Grind Session. Historically, such a big commitment and future signing with an elite program such as Kentucky solidifies an elite ranking, but for a superstar talent like Sharpe, it actually raises his potential and status for the 2022 NBA Draft, if he decides to leave college after his freshman season.
It was widely known nationally that Kentucky was and has been the leader for Sharpe's services for some time. He decided to end the speculation by giving his commitment to Kentucky, while also considering Kansas, Arizona, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Oregon and Creighton.
With his college recruitment and decision now behind him, Sharpe will now be able to focus on having a monster senior season for a very loaded Dream City Christian Prep program. Last season, Sharpe suffered a season-ending injury mid-season that caused him to miss much of the action on the Grind Session. This season, his final one, will be sure to be epic, as he is a tremendous NBA athletic talent that will bring the crowd to their feet at any moment in a game.
Sharpe is a tremendous talent with high-level NBA athleticism. At 6-5 in height, he possesses Vince Carter-like NBA athleticism right now, and is a human highlight reel dunker. He can do things on the basketball court and make plays that most players cannot, as a result of his superior athleticism and bounce off the floor. He is also very strong physically with excellent length of body, combined with a nice overall offensive skill-set. He has a nice shooting stroke with excellent range on his shot, and he uses it to open up his ability to make strong drives and finishes toward the basket. He is superb in the open floor, where is able to fly high above the rim in transition. As he continues to mature, we will see his overall game go to an even higher level. He is a quiet person on and off the floor, and a very humble young man. He will become a nice professional over time, as he has a nice demeanor and is very approachable.
Sharpe is the second top-ranked Arizona prospect to choose the University of Kentucky, joining Ty Ty Washington from the 2021 Class. Washington is currently a freshman at Kentucky, and is also slated as a potential first round NBA draft pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Congratulations to Sharpe on this amazing commitment and accomplishment, and also to the Dream City Christian Prep basketball program and their coaching staff. It will definitely be a fun year to watch Sharpe in action all season on the Grind Session. I will definitely enjoy it, since this will be an amazing opportunity to see such a true NBA talent up close and personal one last season.
