Anthony Ray's Recruiting Academy took place this Saturday again, but this time in Southern Arizona on the campus of Casa Grande High School in Casa Grande, Arizona. The first installment of this year's Academy was exciting on the first day of action, as the participants worked extremely hard on their fundamentals and all got better for sure on the day.
There was excellent instruction and the recruiting information provided by Arizona Preps' own Anthony Ray was invaluable and unparalleled in the state for basketball.
The camp was made even more amazing by the quality one-on-one instruction given by Central Arizona Junior College head coach Trumaine Aaron. Aaron worked with each of the campers on the day and provided them with quality instruction that he teaches his team daily in a high-intensity college basketball environment. Campers learned fundamental skillsets that they can apply in game situations.
There were savoral standouts on the day with their performance. A group of players from Vista Grande High School stood out in their ability to listen and perform the instruction given by former high school coach Chris Hurst, who put the players through intense drills. Sophomore guard Jeremy Zepeda established before the camp that he wanted to gain a better overall basketball IQ, and the skilled young talent definitely took a step in that direction - as did his high school teammates, sophomores Ulysses Bowman and Jeovany Cruz and 8th grader Jose Canez.
The players in attendance received quality instruction from Arizona Preps' senior editor and 19-year Arizona hs/juco basketball scout Anthony Ray. Ray shared valuable recruiting information to the players in attendance - sharing stories of past players and also intangibles that will help players get recruited. Ray has developed such NBA players as Jerryd Bayless (Milwaukee Bucks), Isaiah Thomas (Boston Celtics), Carrik Felix (Cleveland Cavaliers), Luis Ahmundson (New York Knicks) and Bryce Cotton (Utah Jazz).
The Basketball Academy will consist of 8-week sessions throughout the year, and will focus on different aspects of the recruiting and playing process each session. This week's focus was "paying attention to detail." Next week the camp will focus on "attitude" as Ray and his staff taught the importance of paying attention to detail, and what that means to life - on and off the basketball court.
The next session of the Recruiting Academy will take place on Sunday, May 23rd. Here is some more information on this year's Recruiting Academy . . .
