This matchup between the Pinnacle and Chaparral girls was bound to be a fast-paced game. From the opening tip, that is exactly what it was as both teams came out shooting and hitting.
Skilled 6-foot-1 senior guard Sydney Wiese (Oregon State signee) for Pinnacle hit two threes in the first three minutes to set the tone. In a back and forth game, Wiese came out aggressive - scoring 13 big points in the quarter.
On the Chaparral side, 5-foot-3 senior guard Sabrina Benros had two threes to keep them in the game. However, an 8-1 run with one and a half minutes left in the opening quarter gave Pinnacle a 31-19 lead after one. Pinnacle (15-0) would hit five three-pointers in the quarter.
The second half came out with Pinnacle taking full control of the game. They took advantage of every missed shot by Chaparral (3-7) - turning them into fast break buckets. An 8-0 run quickly gave Pinnacle a 39-22 lead. Pinnacle’s size and ability to shoot the three was just too much for Chap, as they took a strangle-hold on the game. They hit 8 three-pointers in the first half to take control.
After the early second quarter run, Pinnacle never looked back and came up with the large 83-32 victory. As a team, they hit nine three-point bombs, to Chaparral’s four.
Pinnacle was led by Sydney Wiese’s game-high 17 points and 6 assists. Other contributors were 6-foot senior Britta Nordstrom with 16 points and 6-foot-1 senior Kenna McDavis’ 12 points (3 three-pointers).
Chaparral was led by Alex Gilliland’s 10 points and Addie Buzas’ 6 points. Sabrina Benros chipped in 6 points and 3 rebounds. She did a good job penetrating and dishing it off, however Pinnacle’s size and speed was too much, as they were unable to capitalize.
