As the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) looks to continue to add top-rated local talent to the rosters in the conference, the Pima Community College basketball program, behind the excellent leadership of Head Coach Brian Peabody, continues to bring in top-rated talent annually. In the process of reloading for next season, Peabody and his staff have added the services of two of the top unsigned 2024 prospects in the state - Eduprize Prep's 6-foot-4 senior guard Khalon Johnson and Mesa Mountain View High School's 6-foot-3 returner Brigg Wolfe.
The additions of Johnson and Wolfe are big for the Pima program, as Johnson is currently one of the most athletic performers in the state, and Wolfe was a 2023 graduate of Mesa Mountain View, and was a highly accomplished prospect before taking a year away from the sport. Both additions to an experienced Pima roster next season should prove big dividends for the Aztecs' coaching staff.
Khalon Johnson had a strong high school career for Edpurize Prep - making the program one of the elite programs in the state throughout his career there. Johnson helped lead the program to a CAA State Championship during his senior season. Johnson will be a nice addition to the Pima roster, as he is as exceptional an athlete as there is in the state, and possess NBA-level athleticism. He has extreme bounce off the floor, and can explode off the floor off one or two feet. A unique athletic talent, Johnson uses his extreme athleticism to make plays off the dribble and finish strong above the rim. He attacks the rim hard and with reckless abandon, which often results on highlight reel dunks. He has really improved his overall offensive skillset, and has improved the consistency on his perimeter stroke from longer ranges. He is able to set up his drives to the basket now after stretching the defense. He is an excellent slasher and finisher in the half-court set or in transition.
Johnson is a very intriguing prospect that should really benefit from his time in the junior college ranks. His unique level of athleticism simply needs to be developed and seen by the right college program. He is a nice sleeper prospect that was very underrated during his time at Eduprize.
Brigg Wolfe is a 2023 graduate and will look to return to action this fall for Pima. Wolfe was highly decorated in the Mountain View program throughout his career, as he was selected as the Male Athlete of the Year, East Valley Player of the Year and a 2nd Team All-State selection during his senior season. Wolfe is among the best pure shooters of the basketball with excellent range on his shot, and has the ability to be a specialist as a shooter. A fundamentally sound prospect, Wolfe has a strong, compact physical frame with a nice overall offensive skillset that allows him to play both guard positions as needed, although he is at his best as a shooter and scorer. A good ball handler that does not waist dribbles and gets to his spots on the floor, but is able to also get to the basket and finish in transition or in the half-court set. Wolfe is also a gym rat and loves the game, which makes him a competitive performer. Wolfe should have an excellent career at Pima.
The addition of Johnson and Wolfe to next year's Pima roster will be tremendous, as the program returns after winning this year's D-II ACCAC Conference Championship. Pima will return next season with the new addition of Central Mighigan transfer Max Majerle, stud guard Cohenj Gonzales (ACCAC D-II Freshman of the Year), strong and physical 6-foot-8 freshman Gabe Oldham, talented 6-foot-8 freshman Wes Ball, 6-foot freshman guard Kota Benson and 6-foot-4 freshman Cooper Jones, to go with other talented prospects that red-shirted last season. Pima will be very strong again next season.
