In very big news this week, one of the state's elite guard prospects from the 2028 Class announced his decision to change high schools, as former Scottsdale Saguaro High School's talented 6-foot-1 rising junior guard Nas Hailey announced his decision to transfer to Deer Valley High School on social media. While the transfer of Nas Hailey from Saguaro High School to Deer Valley High School may not have generated the same level of statewide attention as some other recent moves, make no mistake — this is a very significant addition for the Deer Valley program.
Hailey is coming off a breakout sophomore season at Saguaro HS, where he established himself as one of the top guards in the state. Playing under the strong leadership of Head Coach Lucas Ramirez, Hailey averaged an impressive 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 steals per/game, while helping Saguaro continue to build a very talented young program.
It is still unknown what led Hailey to transfer, but he officially announced his move to Deer Valley this week through social media. His arrival, paired with the addition of former St. Mary’s 6-foot-9 rising senior Ashton Musser, gives Deer Valley two of the most impactful transfers in Arizona entering next season. Both Hailey and Musser will suit up for highly successful head coach Jed Dunn, who has consistently proven himself as one of Arizona’s elite coaches. The Deer Valley program has long been recognized as one of the premier programs in the state, and the addition of these two talented transfers only strengthens the Skyhawks’ chances of making a serious run at another 4A State Championship.
The 2026-27 season is already shaping up to be an exciting one for Deer Valley, and with Hailey’s scoring ability, toughness, and overall skill-set in the backcourt, combined with Musser’s size and presence in the frontcourt, the Skyhawks have assembled one of the most formidable lineups in Arizona’s 4A Division.
We will continue to follow this story closely as Hailey transitions to Deer Valley, and bring you more updates as his senior season approaches.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Hailey is a skilled combo-guard prospect that has excellent versatility as a player. He can play both guard positions on the floor, but is at his best as a scorer. He has an ability to get buckets at a high level, as he can score in a variety of ways. He has a strong mid-range game for himself and plays with superior confidence in himself. Has good overall toughness. A very good ball handler. A good shooter with range on his shot, but at his best when attacking off the dribble and finishing strong at the rim. A solid passer. A strong rebounder from the guard position. A good overall defender. Still has some upside, and he could still be growing some. Has a bright future. One of the top guard prospects in Arizona's 2028 Class.
