One of the biggest storylines leading into the annual Section 7 Basketball Tournament came before a single game was played, as elite 2028 guard prospect Maurice Carter, one of the top overall guards in the country, and a nationally recognized prospect in his class, stunned the Arizona basketball community by announcing his transfer from Willow Canyon High School to state powerhouse Millennium High School, just days before the start of the prestigious Section 7 event. The move immediately sent shockwaves throughout the state, as Millennium was already regarded as one of the premier programs in Arizona, and one of the top programs in the country. The Tigers finished last season ranked among the nation’s Top 20 teams, and entered the summer with expectations of once again competing for a state championship and national recognition.

Now they add one of the state’s most explosive young talents.

Carter made his debut with Millennium during the Section 7 Tournament and wasted little time showing why he is considered one of the elite prospects in the 2028 class. Throughout the event, Carter displayed his superior ball-handling ability, elite quickness, playmaking instincts, and scoring prowess, while helping lead Millennium to an impressive showing against some of the top competition in the West. The talented guard consistently created separation off the dribble, attacked defenders with confidence, and showed the ability to score at all three levels. His ability to create offense for both himself and his teammates was on full display throughout the tournament.

Carter is coming off an outstanding sophomore season at Willow Canyon High School, where he averaged 21.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game, while establishing himself as one of the premier guards in Arizona regardless of class. Now Carter joins a loaded Millennium roster that already features one of the nation’s most highly regarded prospects in 6-foot-5 senior Adan Diggs. Together, they give Millennium one of the most exciting backcourts in the West heading into next season.

As Arizona basketball continues to gain national recognition, Maurice Carter remains one of the state’s brightest young stars. His transfer to Millennium immediately changes the landscape of Arizona high school basketball, and gives the Tigers yet another weapon as they pursue championship aspirations next season.

Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Maurice Carter is among the top overall talents and prospects in the state, regardless of class. An explosive athlete with serious bounce and physical strength, Carter is a big time young talent that has flourished at a very young age and is just beginning to realize his potential. An excellent ball handler and passer that sees the floor and makes plays for himself and others, he is a difficult guard to defend and can get to anywhere he wants on the floor with the dribble. A strong driver and finisher. Pushes the ball up the floor with the pass, and is very quick off the dribble. A good shooter with range om his shot, but is at his best as a creator. Has excellent body control and physical strength, and is very agile. An excellent defender with strong lateral quickness and quick hands and feet. A big time guard prospect for the future. A high major PG prospect.
