While it has always been just a matter of time before he received the honor, Perry High School's superstar 6-foot-8 senior Koa Peat has now officially been named a member of the 2025 McDonald's All-American team - another very impressive honor for the most dominant force that we have ever seen in Arizona basketball history. Peat is embarking on an amazing fourth-consecutive state championship in a row this high school season, something we have never seen in the state of Arizona in the state's top division. It is one amazing thing to win four consecutive state championships, and it is absolutely much more impressive to win four straight championships in the state's top division - the 6A Division or for the Open Division State Championship. Koa Peat should do both, and becoming a McDonald's All-American is the icing on the cake.
What is most impressive about Koa Peat for the Arizona basketball community, is that Peat has changed the narrative - as he has made all of his accomplishments, thus far, while a product of an Arizona-based high school program. While Peat was certainly lured to leave Perry for the prep school ranks consistently, he stayed put and helped turn Perry High School into one of the elite programs in the country - proving that it can be done at any level of high school program. Peat is a role model for future elite-level high school prospects, that they do not have to go to a prep school program to get off. While the prep school ranks are excellent in preparing elite prospects for the collegiate level, they are not for every player. Some prospects thrive in a true high school setting, and Peat was one of those players, as he attended school functions and had a nice high school experience.
Peat has helped to transform the state of Arizona's basketball culture through his amazing exploits on the basketball court, and has generated offers from every top college program in the country, in the process. Peat recently narrowed down his list of college programs to (5) schools, although he has yet to make his college decision and elected to pass on the early signing period. Peat has already taken official recruiting visits to each of the programs, and should make his huge college decision very soon. There has been wide speculation on where Peat will ultimately land. The addition of a prospect with the size, skillset and following of a prospect like Peat could catapult any college program to another level, so the current recruitment of Pete has been fierce.
With more than 30+ Division-I offers on the table for himself, Peat recently narrowed down his list of schools to (5) college programs that he would focus on in making his college decision - Arizona, Texas, Baylor, Houston and Arizona State are the five programs that he will decide from this spring.
Last season, Peat was selected as the Max Preps Arizona Player of the Year, and also the Gatorade Player of the Year, among many other accomplishments, for his performance throughout his junior season, which resulted in Perry High School winning another Open Division State Championship, after posting a 25-6 overall record on the season for Perry. This senior season, Peat has been terrific again - leading Perry to a 17-2 record and a Top 10 national ranking. Peat is focused again on winning it all and riding off into the sunset as the state's most dominant and impressive basketball prospect ever.
Congratulations to Koa Peat and the Peat family, as well as Perry High School on another McDonald's All-American. Former Perry HS standout Cody Williams (Utah Jazz) was also a McDonald's All-American in 2023. Williams was the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Peat will soon join him in the NBA as well.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Peat has excellent size at 6-foot-8 and weighing 215 pounds, as he is very light on his feet and has very good athleticism and length of body, which allows him to play even bigger than his size suggests. He also has great hands and is physically very strong with broad shoulders, and is agile on his feet. He will only continue to improve and become much more of a physical force over time, which is scary to think of. He has a very good skill level that allows him to score inside and out, while possessing a good handle and amazing body control and explosiveness off the floor. He has developed his perimeter skills and has an improved shooting stroke with range, to keep defenses honest, while also being able to score off the dribble and finish strong over defenders in the lane. A next level finisher inside the paint. Gets to the free throw line quite often and relishes physical contact, although he can get into foul trouble easily. He has strong low post skills and good low post footwork, which allows him to score almost at will around the basket. He runs the floor hard like a guard and is a strong scorer in the open floor. An elite rebounder and finisher, and also a very good shot blocker with excellent timing. A generational talent for the state of Arizona and a future NBA Lottery pick.
