One of the elite-level prospects in the state of Arizona, regardless of class, is Valley Vista High School's phenom 6-foot-2 rising sophomore post Kiara Edwards. Because Edwards is such a strong prospect for the future for elite high-major division-I college programs to recruit, she has taken her game this club season to California to play for one of the nation's hottest club programs.
Since to the end of the season, and after beginning the club season with her initial girls club program, the Arizona Magic Elite, Edwards then decided to play the remainder of the club season with the nationally ranked West Coast Premier, a Nike EYBL team and one of the most successful club programs in the country.
Edwards is gaining valuable experience as a result, competing at the highest level against top-rated competition and also playing alongside many of the top prospects on the West Coast. Edwards, while not seeing loads of playing time, is getting valuable minutes with a team that plays in front of a large number of college coaches each time out. She has seen her college recruitment take off as a result, and is now getting recruited by many high-major division-I college programs, including many schools in the PAC-12 Conference.
Last season as a mere freshman and as a varsity starter, Edwards averaged nice numbers - 12 points and 10 rebounds per/game. These numbers will only get much better over time as she matures. Look for her numbers to improve a great deal next high school season - a scary thought as Edwards already possesses a division-I college-ready body and will only continue to develop.
Edwards will finish out this July with West Coast Premier, before dominating the state of Arizona next high school season. Look for Edwards to develop into one of the elite overall prospects in the state next season, as she leads one of the state's top girl's programs - a team that will return many of the state's top girls prospects next season. Many of the Valley Vista girls have had strong club seasons and have played in many top-rated tournaments around the country.
I will be keeping a very close eye on Edwards throughout her high school career, but she is off to a great start.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Edwards is a very nice looking young post prospect with excellent physical size and loads of potential for the future. She is a glaring young talent with good overall fundamentals and a strong presence on the court. An excellent rebounder, especially on the offensive end where she takes up space inside the paint and is able to get nice put-backs for her team. She also runs the floor very well for her size and is a very good finisher already. Gets very good low post position and has an excellent drop step inside the paint. Has very good footwork. A good mid-range shooter with a soft touch. A big-time young prospect that already has an offer from Long Beach State. An elite high major division-I prospect for the future.
