In a basketball landscape where talent, pedigree, and production all matter, JD Jones has proven he brings all three to the table. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound senior guard from Phoenix Country Day High School, one of the top academic private schools in the country, had an excellent senior season for himself. In the process, he became one of the state's top overall unsigned prospects in the class. An amazing student as well, Jones gave himself some great options for college. This week he gave a huge announcement when he officially announced his commitment to Florida State University, where he will continue his basketball career at the high-major Division-I level. Jones made a major statement with his decision, choosing to take his talents to one of the premier programs in the ACC.

Basketball excellence runs deep in the Jones family. JD is the son of former Phoenix Suns General Manager James Jones, a highly respected NBA figure who helped guide the Suns organization during his tenure in the front office. Growing up around the game at the highest level has clearly had an impact, as JD has developed into a poised, mature, and highly skilled player in his own right.

On the court, Jones put together a very impressive senior season, leading Phoenix Country Day to an outstanding 25-2 overall record in the state’s 2A Division. His leadership, consistency, and ability to impact the game in multiple ways were key factors in the program’s success throughout the year. At 6-5, Jones is a bigger guard prospect and brings excellent size and strength to the guard position, along with a versatile skill-set that allows him to contribute across the board. He is a strong, physical guard who can score the basketball, handle effectively, and defend at a high level. His feel for the game and understanding of spacing, pace, and decision-making reflect his high basketball IQ - something that has been cultivated over years of exposure to the game.

Beyond his physical tools, what separates Jones is his composure and leadership ability. He plays the game with confidence and control - consistently making winning plays and elevating those around him. His presence helped Phoenix Country Day establish itself as one of the top teams in its division this season. For Florida State, landing a player like Jones is a big-time win as well, as the program is getting a well-rounded player and young man with high academic achievement for their program.

Competing in the ACC will present new challenges, but Jones has shown he has both the mentality and foundation to succeed. As he prepares to take the next step in his basketball journey, Jones carries with him not only a strong résumé but also a legacy of excellence. With his combination of talent, work ethic, and background, he has positioned himself for success at the next level.
