Another one of the state's elite prospects still available this spring has found his college fit, as 6-foot-3 previously unsigned senior prospect Jackson Ruai decided that he would give his college decision in favor of a rising NCAA Division-II member program.
Ruai had many different options for himself over the past year, as he was one of the higher recruited prospects in Arizona's 2019 Class. With numerous division-I offers on the table for himself last spring and summer, Ruai, who is an excellent student, failed to receive a passing test score on the college entrance examination. As a result, Ruai then had many more college options for himself, as many junior college programs stepped into the fold.
This week, after mulling over many options for himself, Ruai decided to sign a national letter of intent with Cal-State San Marcos University, a big signing for the division-II program.
Ruai was one of the hottest prospects in the state throughout his high school career, and previously had Division-I offers from such programs as Nevada, Grand Canyon, Utah Valley State, UC-Davis, Houston Baptist, Portland State and Northern Arizona.
Ruai had an excellent showing this spring, as he led his club program, Arizona Dynasty, to a very strong performance in several events. The Dynasty finished with a 17-1 record this spring with Ruai leading the way on both ends of the floor.
Ruai emerged as a young college prospect while playing for the Powerhouse Hoops program on the club circuit.
Assistant coach Kevin Williamson was instrumental in helping Cal-State Marcos land the top-rated 2019 prospect. Williamson has landed some of Arizona's best prospects over the years at different locations that he has coached at, and he continues to get it done at a high level.
Ruai is an electric guard prospect with a long, rangy body and excellent quickness and athleticism. He is capable of playing both as a 2 or 3 position on the floor, although he is at his best as a scorer from the off-guard position. He is an excellent athlete and is a very good defender that is capable of becoming a lock-down defender over time - a valuable asset as a player.
Congratulations to Ruai on this accomplishment from our staff here at Arizona Preps.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Ruai is an electric guard prospect with a long, rangy body and excellent quickness and athleticism. He plays much bigger than his size suggests as a result of his length and bounciness off the floor. He is a good shooter of the basketball with range on his shot, and can create his own shot effectively off the dribble. He is an excellent finisher in traffic and in the open floor, an area of his game which will really develop over time as he matures physically. He is an excellent defender with good court anticipation and is able to play passing lanes effectively for steals and transition baskets. He has the ability to become a lock-down defender over time. An excellent sleeper prospect for a college program that has excellent upside as a player.
