Cactus High School's basketball program will never be the same, after the illustrious career of 7-foot, 240-pound senior post Bradey Henige (Cal Baptist signee). Henige put up some of the best overall statistical numbers that we have ever seen in this state or any other state, for that matter. Now headed to Cal Baptist University in the fall, Henige is coming off another amazing season where he ranked among the top overall producers again in the country, and this weekend he capped off his excellent career with an MVP performance at this year's AZ All-Star Shootout.
Henige gave an early verbal commitment to Cal Baptist University, a nice decision for Henige, who will have an opportunity to play for a successful Division-I college program next fall. Cal Baptist is on the rise in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), and the addition of Henige will definitely pay dividends for their program over time. Henige is coming off an amazing high school career, where he had an eye-popping career average of 25.2 points, 18.1 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per/game. This senior season, Henige led his Cactus HS program to an impressive 22-6 overall record on the season in the state's 4A Division, while pouring in 27.2 points, 19.4 rebounds and 4 blocks per/game - ranking among the top individual producers in the country.
This weekend, Henige looked terrific as he turned in an MVP performance in this year's AZ All-Star Shootout @ South Mountain Community College. Henige looked much bigger and more filled out since I saw him last. His physique and build looked impressive and college-ready, and so did his game, as Henige competed hard in the contest and produced at his usual high level in the game. Henige would be selected as the MVP amidst a nice roster of senior performers.
Henige chose to sign with Cal Baptist over offers from Washington State, San Jose State, Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona.
Prospects like Henige are very rare and especially rare in the state of Arizona, as he is a footer with a nice overall skillset. Henige had an amazing high school career, and I feel like I watched him grow up before my own eyes. He will certainly have a bright future ahead of himself.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: As a college prospect, Henige is a large post prospect with good footwork and an excellent overall offensive skillset, which allows him to score a great deal around the basket and also from the perimeter. Henige has excellent low post footwork and left-handed prowess that makes him very difficult to stop around the paint. He has a very soft touch from the perimeter and is able to step out to three-point distance and make defenses pay. This is an area of his game that will suit him nicely over time, as he moves on to the collegiate ranks. He is still growing into his body, so he is just scratching the surface of just how good he can be. His best attribute is his versatility, as he is able score inside and out, and can defend both post positions. He is an excellent rebounder that keeps the ball up high on rebounds, and is a good finisher. He also runs floor hard and well with good fluidity. He is a good finisher in transition. Has also has upside and as he matures physically, his game will only continue to progress with added physical strength in his upper and lower body. Will have a very long career in college and professionally, over time.
