Report On 2014 Arizona Preps Fall Showcase
The 16th annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase was held Saturday, October 25th at Sandra Day O’Connor High School in Phoenix under the direction of Anthony Ray of Arizona Preps. Here is a report on the event.
Top Prospects:
6’4 SF Noah Bauman of Desert Vista HS 2017
Bauman is a three man with a nice all-around game. He can run the floor and has a bit of burst of speed. He is ok making plays in transition, moves ok without the ball in the half court, can shoot it some and is an ok driver (who uses a floater effectively). Bauman looks to be a low major prospect.
6’6 SF Chris Bowling of Gilbert HS 2016
Bowling is a consistent wing man who comes to play and produces every time he steps on the floor. He can handle the ball some and is a good passer. He finishes well in transition and shoots it ok with 3-point range. He gets to the basket on the drive well and can elevate some over the defense. Bowling is a probable mid major prospect.
7’0 C Lamous Brown of Planet Athlete Academy Prep 2015
Brown is a five man who is an ok athlete (runs a little stiffly) with fairly long arms. He can pass the ball but is raw offensively and needs some development. He is an upper level low major prospect who is worth following and could go higher with some improvement.
6’7 Chris Davis of Phase 1 Academy Prep 2015
Davis is a face up four-man who has some lift around the basket. He is an ok ball handler who can pull in the half court and also get to the hoop on the drive. Davis is a likely low major prospect.
6’4 SG/SF Nick Johnson of Boulder Creek HS 2016
Johnson is a wing man who shows some versatile skills. He can handle the ball ok and pulls up very nicely in transition. He shoots it fairly with 3-point range and has an ok first step on the drive. He is also a decent rebounder. Johnson projects to be a low major prospect at this point.
6’5 SF Billy Jordan of Desert Ridge HS 2017
Jordan is a fairly athletic three man who can make plays in transition and in the half court. He is a solid ball handler who gets to the basket on the drive consistently. He is also a solid rebounder. Bauman is a low major prospect who has potential to be a t a higher level in the long run.
6’10 PF/C Devin Kirby of Basha HS 2016
Kirby is a very promising 2016 big man who shows a lot of potential and his stock is rising. He is fairly athletic and can run the floor. He demonstrates the ability to play inside and outside which is a real plus. He can pass the ball and is an ok mid-range shooter. Kirby is a solid rebounder who is active on the glass consistently. He is an upper level mid major prospect currently.
6’10 C Malik Ondingo of Dysart HS 2016
Ondingo is one of the most promising 2016 prospects in Arizona whose stock is continuing to rise. He is a fairly athletic five man who can run. His post up skills are coming along. He has a promising turnaround shot and a jump hook (that is hard to guard) on the block. He is even showing a little ability to use his left hand as well. He’s a capable rebounder but could show a little more consistency in this area. Ondingo is somewhere in the mid major range at this point, but does have some upside and could go higher ultimately.
6’3 SG/SF JJ Rhymes of Shadow Mountain HS 2016
Rhymes was one of the most impressive players at the event. He’s a real athletic wing with a nice burst of speed. While showing the ability to pull on the break, his best asset is his ability to finish in transition. He’s a confident ball handler and a real good passer who can make plays for himself and others. Rhymes is a good driver with a nice first step and he is an ok set shooter who has 3-point range. He’s also a solid rebounder. Ryhmes is a solid mid major prospect.
6’4 SF Kam Ritter of Planet Athlete Academy Prep (Post Grad)
Ritter is somewhat athletic three man who has some skills. He’s an ok ball handler and a good passer who has a nice floater shot. His best asset is his ability to get to the basket on the drive. Ritter is a low major prospect.
5’9 PG Malik Salahuddin – Middle School (2019)
While it is our philosophy that is way too early to ever evaluate grade school players Salahuddin did play well in this event. He’s an athletic one man who plays with a lot of confidence. He’s a confident ball handler and passer who can make plays in transition. He can pull up at the end of the break and he has a nice floater shot. Salhuddin shows potential to play Division I but we will reserve judgment until he gets to high school.
6’7 SF Brandon Whitaker of Campo Verde HS 2016
Whitaker is a fairly athletic three man who can run the floor. He handles the ball ok and has nice transition pull up shot. He also pulls up efficiently in the half court. He is an OK shooter (3 range) and driver and he has a nice floater. He is thin and needs to develop some bulk/strength. Whitaker is likely a low major prospect.
6’7 PF Kwintin Williams of Planet Athlete Academy Prep 2015
Williams is a fairly athletic face up four who is a versatile scorer. He is a capable ball handler who is a good driver and a fairly good shooter with three-point range. Williams is a possible mid major prospect who needs to eliminate his tendency to showboat after making a good play.
