On Saturday evening at this year's 16th Annual Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, history in the 16-year annual event was made as Sedona Red Rock High School's 6-foot-2 sophomore guard Dawson Stevenson brought home this year's slam dunk title in fine fashion - defeating ultra-athletic 6-foot-8 junior forward Seth Mason of Pinnacle High School in the finals.
Stevenson was an unknown prospect before this year's event, but now has emerged as a very intriguing prospect for the future, as a result of his length, athleticism and ability to shoot the basketball from the perimeter. He is a high-energy guard prospect with a very live body, as evidenced from his performance in this year's dunk contest. Stevenson soared above the rim and finished dunks high over his head en route to a championship performance.
While this year's contest lack some of the glitz and glamour of year's past, as a result of the distance of this year's event, the dunk contest still did not disappoint as Stevenson proved to be a diamond in the rough for those in attendance. With Harlem Globetrotters player Michael Purdie in attendance and promising to make next year's dunk contest event an epic one, Stevenson showed off his talents.
Congratulations to Stevenson on his performance in this year's event, and we look forward to big things from him in the future.
