Brophy Prep High School (17-6) is now playing their best basketball of the season, and on Tuesday evening the Broncos won a big game at home over a surging Hamilton team - defeating Hamilton 50-48.
Arizona Preps' new staff writer Derek "DJ" James, an assistant coach at Sagu University in Phoenix, recently joined our Arizona Preps' basketball staff, and brings valuable player development experience to our organization. James attended this exciting match-up between Brophy Prep and Hamilton (16-8).
Here are James' evaluations of the top prospects that he watched on Tuesday evening . . .
Brophy Player Evaluations
Sean Dunn 6-9 Senior C Brophy Prep (Point Loma signee) - 2017 Class
Dunn has a very big body and uses his body well, putting his shoulder into the defenders chest for layups. He finishes well around the basket and knows when to pump fake.
Matthew Kempton 6-5 Senior SF/PF Brophy Prep - 2017 Class
A strong physical guard with good court vision. A smart player. Strong ball handler. Can improve by having quicker feet on the defensive end.
Hamilton Player Evaluations
Rashad Smith 6-5 JR PG/SG Hamilton HS - 2018 Class
A good rebounding guard. Very active and gets his hands on the ball a lot. Athletic. Can get to the rim pretty well/slasher. In good condition. Needs to be a more confident shooter. He's more comfortable slashing than shooting. He needs to improve his shot to be able to take his game to the next level, and open up the floor for what he wants to do, which is attack the rim.
Cole Steed 6-3 JR SG Hamilton HS - 2018 Class
A good defender. Active on the ball. Goes hard to the basket.
Probably can work on creating a little more for himself and teammates.
