The Poston Butte Broncos are charging their way into a 4A East Sky Region Title and State Playoff Run. The Broncos have the best shot, as they have probably one of the best teams assembled in program history under the leadership of Head Coach Savannah Bix.
Bix is the 2nd Coach in program history, and it seems that she keeps improving her team’s record year after year. Last year, her Broncos won the 4A Black Canyon Region Title with a perfect 10-0 record in region play. Her Broncos were ousted in the first round of playoffs by eventual 4A State Runner-Up Flagstaff High.
Bix’s Broncos are making their case into repeating as region champs with a hunger for a deeper playoff run. Last night, the Broncos charged past ALA Gilbert-North 58-36. Here are the players who stood out to me in the win:
Adriana Bachman 2023 5-7 Guard
Bachman is the heart and soul of the team. She is extremely tough and isn’t hesitant to do the things necessary to get the win. Currently, she is averaging 15 points, 3.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. A downhill guard who attacks the defense, she utilizes her physical defensive skill-set to create offensive opportunities. The Broncos will rely on her play-making ability to help lead the playoff run this season.
Helaina Bachman 2023 5-7 Guard
Adriana’s twin, Helaina is talented and compliments her sister’s play. She looks to contribute to the team’s stat sheet, which helps fill in the gaps to keep the Broncos competitive. Bachman is a playmaker who has a good feel for the game and shows good scoring ability if left open.
Autumn Thomas 2025 5-7 Wing
Thomas has a great platform, as she is a long and athletic defender who disrupts passing lanes and offensive rhythm. If she improves her ball-handling and mid-long range scoring ability, her stock will skyrocket as she brings so much upside. I anticipate her making those improvements under Bix’s leadership.
Symirah Gray 2025 5-5 Point Guard
Gray’s game really grew on me, since I watched her last school year. Her game is smooth, as she has a great handle with great vision and passing ability. Gray’s stock will continue to skyrocket, as she is one of the most underrated floor generals in the state and provides tremendous upside. College coaches keep this young lady on your radar.
