In what has been the most “interesting” summer/fall of prep hoops, things seem to be getting somewhat back to normal, as high school basketball in the valley kicked things off this week with the Arizona Compass Fall League. In a renovated gym, there is no better way to show your new digs than hosting one of the first high school events in the state.
From the first night of the event, here are the players that stood out to Arizona Preps' scout Tye Jacobs (Was Not Able to attend 5PM game W/ San Tan Charter VS AZ Compass Prep Green) . . .
Ryan Ginsberg 6-0 2023 Class AZ Dream/ Desert Mountain
-Ryan is a tough guard who plays with a high basketball IQ. He seems to never be rushed and makes great decisions in pick-and-roll situations. Ryan has enough strength to hold space when probing in the lane, and has good touch on his floater. He is a kid to keep an eye on as he matures.
Will Dubuc 6-5 2022 Class AZ Dream/Desert Mountain
Will is a highly athletic wing who is capable of guarding multiple positions. He possesses good footwork when he gets the ball in the post, and showed the ability to be a lob threat when cutting to the rim.
Matthew Henry Harrison 5-10 2023 Class Buckeye HS
Matthew is a player that seems to get better each time I see him play. He is a constant display of toughness and heart, as he never takes a play off. Matthew stands out with his shot-creating ability. He has great footwork to make an array of tough jumpers.
D’mari Johnson 6-8 2021 Class Buckeye High School
D’mari is a Big who makes his living in the paint. He can create a lot of space on the block and seals his opponents for better position. He excels at being in the best spot for offensive boards, and has a soft touch when finishing around the rim.
Landon Schumacher 6-6 2023 Class AZ Compass Prep
Landon (pictured) displayed his great hands and touch. He rarely drops passes and rarely didn’t score on paint touches. He was most impressive with his footwork, while driving to the lane seeming creating space with slick moves for the what he made seem like easy finishes.
Dimitrios Stragalinos 6-5 2021 Class Skyline Prep
Dimitrios competed at a high level and showed his ability to play on and off the ball. He is a knock-down shooter who has in the gym range, but punishes defenders with his athleticism, and for closing out too hard. Already holding Division-I offers, it will be interesting to see where he ends up next season.
Dorrel Thomas 6-5 2022 Class Skyline Prep
Dorrel is a player with an unbelievable motor. He can snatch rebounds and push the ball in transition. He gets to the rim with fair ease and uses several euro-steps to finish in traffic. Dorrel is a highly-touted player playing his AAU/club basketball with the Compton Magic. It will be fun to watch him as the season begins.
Khabri Davis 6-5 2021 Class Glenview College Prep
Khabri showed the ability to score from all three levels, while also showing grit to do the little things on both sides of the court. He showed the ability to guard multiple positions and seemed to always be in the perfect spot to make a play on both ends.
Q’Bon Sullivan 6-5 2021 Class PHH Prep
Q’Bon got hot early with his sweet, lefty stroke from the perimeter. Once the defense began to hard close out, he showed the ability to get to the rim and finish. With his transfer from Mountain Pointe HS to PHH Prep, it will be exciting to see how he develops as a prospect.
