Fors the first time ever in our (23) years of existence, the Arizona Preps’ staff will be traveling to Augusta, Georgia, later this month to cover the highly acclaimed Nike Peach Jam – July 27 – 31st. We are proud to make this announcement, as we have never had the opportunity to cover this exciting event. One of the top point guard prospects in Arizona’s 2023 Class is ready to have a breakout season for himself. Ironwood High School’s 5-foot-11 rising senior point guard Leonard Romayor has had to overcome some obstacles in his short high school career. His senior season will be a big one for him and his team, as he will have a full season to prove his value and ability to play the game at a high level. The Ironwood team is loaded with talent and will have a chance to win it all, again, in 2023. Romayor is coming off a…

One of the top overall prospects in Arizona’s 2024 Class is Notre Dame Prep’s strong and very athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound rising junior guard Anthony Batson Jr. Batson is currently rated as our #3 shotting guard prospect in Arizona’s 2024 Class, and is coming off a very strong performance in June’s Section 7 Event. After a terrific freshman and sophomore season at Notre Dame, Batson is on the rise as a player and as a college prospect. Arizona’s 2024 Class is, of course, very talented and loaded, but Batson is one prospect in the class that I see maintaining his ranking…

One of the top prospects to look forward to in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) next season will be 6-foot-8, 180-pound sophomore wing Isaiah Brody. After a freshman season while playing at Jacksonville University where he saw limited action, Brody recently entered the NCAA’s Transfer Portal. He now has enrolled in classes at Scottsdale Junior College, while trying to decide what he will do next season. As a freshman this past season at Jacksonville, Brody appeared in (12) games off the bench as a true freshman. He had a season-high of 27 minutes on Dec. 29 vs. Carver,…

Former Gilbert High School standout, 6-foot-2, 175-pound rising senior guard KJ Perry is coming off an excellent junior season for himself, as he helped Gilbert HS to one of the best seasons in the state last season. Perry has now decided to transfer schools for his senior season, and will be suiting up for PHH Prep this fall, while also reclassifying to the 2024 Class. Perry was an integral part of Gilbert’s extreme success as a team last season, as the team…

In very surprising fashion this week, AZ Compass Prep’s 6-foot-7, 210-pound stud senior wing Mookie Cook shocked the national basketball community when he announced his de-commitment from the University of Oregon. Cook had previously given an early verbal commitment to Oregon during the spring of 2022. Now with Cook on the recruiting board once again, it will be very interesting to see again where he ultimately lands at for college in 2023. While it seemed that Cook would be a nice get for Oregon and my good friend, Head Coach Dana Altman, instead Cook could now land at a bigger,…

The world is changing, and so is the state of Arizona – in many ways. As I look back to the amazing recent success for Arizona basketball prospects in this year’s 2022 NBA Draft, it quickly became apparent that Arizona has now officially arrived and risen to another level. I have been covering Arizona basketball since 1995 (27 years) and have seen the immense progression and development of Arizona basketball first-hand. While it was once believed that Arizona basketball could never reach the heights we have today, the recent development and tremendous success of many prep programs in the valley,…

After many, many years of watching the annual and very exciting NBA Draft, and marveling at the many college prospects that get drafted each year – some whom we know, but most we do not. This year’s NBA Draft though was much different, as (5) different Arizona prospects went in the first round of the draft. Three of the first rounders were naturally from the state of Arizona, and attended local high schools in the valley, while two more proved the strength of Arizona’s prep basketball programs. A sixth Arizona prospect would go in the second round – giving the…

While the majority of the top prospects in Arizona’s 2022 Class have now decided on their college homes, the best available prospect currently still available in the state is 6-foot-5 unsigned senior wing Quincy Adams. While it is a major surprise that he is still available at this juncture, Adams is still mulling over his recruiting options for school next fall. Adams has received his share of college recruitment this spring, but he has yet to land the opportunity yet that he is looking for. Adams has received several Division-II offers for himself, and is considering them, but is still…

The Section 7 Event was as exciting as ever last weekend, as hundreds of college coaches ventured to the state to evaluate the competition from this year’s exciting event. With more than (200) different high school programs in participation from the West, there were many different prospects to take a hard look at.
