In a move that has sent shockwaves throughout the Arizona basketball community and beyond, one of the most electrifying and talked-about players in the country has made his college decision. Maryvale High School's superstar 5-foot-10 senior point guard Adrian “Ace” Stubbs has officially committed to Pima Community College - announcing his decision on social media on Thursday. And while the commitment itself is significant, it is the journey and the story behind it that has captured national attention. Stubbs is coming off one of the most unbelievable individual careers in high school basketball history.

Earlier this season, Stubbs delivered a performance that many still struggle to comprehend, as he scored 104 points in a single game, accounting for 104 of his team’s 109 points in a 109-25 victory over Yuma Kofa High School. Even more remarkable, Stubbs achieved this historic feat in just over three quarters of play - sitting out the remainder of the game.

In over three decades of scouting Arizona high school basketball, this stands alone. It wasn’t just a scoring outburst, it was a moment that shook the basketball world. The performance generated national headlines, viral attention, and widespread buzz across the country. Yet, despite the magnitude of the achievement, Stubbs did not receive the level of Division-I attention many believed he deserved. And that’s where his story takes a powerful turn. Rather than settle or take a safer route at a lower level, Stubbs made a bold decision - he is betting on himself.

Stubbs has chosen the junior college route, committing to Pima Community College, one of the premier JUCO programs in the country, and with a clear mission: to prove he is a Division-I guard.

That belief is unwavering, but Stubbs’ impact goes far beyond the stat sheet, and the numbers back it up. This past season, Stubbs put together one of the most complete and dominant seasons in the state, averaging an eye-popping 25.3 points, 7.1 assists, 5 rebounds and 4.8 steals per/game. While many may view him strictly as a scorer because of his historic 104-point performance, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Stubbs is a complete two-way player. In fact, he led the state in steals, proving his ability to impact the game defensively at an elite level. His quickness, anticipation, and relentless motor make him just as dangerous on defense, as he is with the basketball in his hands. He doesn’t just score, he disrupts, creates, and changes the game.

This past season, he also led Maryvale High School to a strong 19-7 overall record, helping restore pride and energy within a program and community that needed it. Stubbs became more than just a star player, he became a symbol of hope and resilience for Maryvale.

The season did not begin easily. Early in the year, the Maryvale community faced a traumatic moment when a student was stabbed on campus - an incident that could have derailed an entire program. Instead, Stubbs and his teammates rallied together, refusing to let adversity define their season. They responded with unity, toughness, and purpose.

Stubbs’ leadership helped galvanize the Maryvale community, bringing people together through basketball during a time when it was needed most. His performances gave the school something to rally around, and his presence helped elevate the program to new heights. It was one of the most impactful seasons, not just statistically, but emotionally, that Arizona basketball has seen in years. Now, Stubbs takes the next step and the stage only gets bigger.

At Pima, he will join forces with returning freshman sensation Isaiah Hill, who put together one of the best seasons in junior college basketball this year. Hill was selected as both the ACCAC Freshman of the Year and ACCAC Division-II Player of the Year, and despite heavy Division-I interest, has elected to return to Pima for another season. The pairing of Stubbs and Hill instantly creates what could be one of the most dynamic backcourts in the country at any level of junior college basketball. Two elite guards. Two competitors. Two players with something to prove.

And that’s what makes this story special. Stubbs is not just another recruit - he’s a statement. A statement about belief. A statement about resilience. And a statement about taking the harder road to reach a bigger goal. In today’s recruiting landscape, where many players chase immediate opportunities, Stubbs has chosen development, exposure, and competition - trusting that his game will ultimately speak for itself. And if history is any indication, it will.

Expect Adrian “Ace” Stubbs to arrive at Pima with a chip on his shoulder, and more to prove to the entire country. And if this past season showed us anything… It’s that betting against him would be a mistake.

Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Stubbs is a very unique guard prospect that has a gift as a player and playmaker. His exploits on the basketball court are tremendous and unique to the game, as he plays with a true passion and love for the game. He is intense on the court, on both ends of the floor, and is a focused, two-way player. As a result, his size does not limit him, as he competes very hard and plays much bigger than his size suggests. He is a serious ball handler and passer that has an excellent feel for the game. With the ball in his hands, he is a magician of sorts and is absolutely a joy to watch perform. He makes players around him better and pushes the ball up the floor to the open man. He is an excellent scorer for his size, and is able to score from all (3) levels. His ability to create off the dribble is immense also, and he can make plays for himself and others, almost at will. A strong rebounder from the guard position, and an excellent on-the-ball defender that plays to win and with a purpose. An excellent sleeper guard prospect that competes at a high level and loves the game.
