The Winter Basketball Season has arrived. I am so excited to be covering the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, Arizona Interscholastic Association, Grind Session, and the Canyon Athletic Association. Unfortunately, there are schedule conflicts, so I had to move the ACCAC Game of the Week up to Saturday, which featured Chandler-Gilbert Community College visiting Mesa Community College.
The game was a back-and-forth battle, with Mesa leading the way by no more than 6 points through the first three quarters. In the 4th, Mesa’s freshman wings Kada Taliman and AnnMarie Trojanvoich caught fire and hit some big threes to propel their team to a 82-65 victory. Here are some of the prospects who caught my eye:
Chandler-Gilbert Junior College
Sam Sibbet 5-6 Sophomore Guard
A hard-nosed combo-guard who plays aggressively on both ends of the floor. Sibbet is a three-level scorer and shows she will be a solid pickup for a (4) year school.
Mya Johnson 5-5 Sophomore Guard
Johnson is a sniper and shows she can attack the rim and get to the charity stripe. Her game has evolved, as she is a consistent scorer and defends. Another prospect that is showing readiness for the 4- year level.
Mesa Junior College
Mackenzie Shivers 5-6 Freshmen Point Guard
I feel like Mesa got a steal in signing Shivers. I’ve always been a fan of her game, because she is extremely skilled as a facilitator, scorer and defender. One of the toughest point guards in the conference with tremendous upside.
Jasmine Belt 5-10 Sophomore Forward
Belt is a physical inside presence that cleans the glass well and has good low-post scoring ability. She is another prospect showing she is ready for the (4) year level and is slated to have a big season.
AnnMarie Trojanvoich 6-1 Freshmen Wing
Torjanvoich is a microwave as she came off the bench and heated up quickly with an array of threes. She is long, runs the floor well and utilizes her length well. A deadly three point specialist with tremendous upside.
Love Troupe 5-10 Sophomore Forward
Troupe plays with good fire and passion. I like her motor and ability to be a strong inside presence. 4 year schools should be keeping track of this d1 bounce back as her stock will rise through the roof as the season progresses.
Kada Tilman 5-9 Freshmen Shooting Guard
Tilman can flat out light it up. She is one of the better catch and shoot guards in the league and will have a big season this year. I look forward to watching her production this season.
