In their first home game of the ACCAC junior college season, Mesa Junior College (6-0, 2-0) would face a confident Glendale Community College (5-4, 1-1) team, that came into Wednesday evening's match-up looking for the upset victory. But Mesa JC would prove to be stronger - winning their first ACCAC home game of the season with a 85-70 win.
While the game would be slow to get going, the two teams would heat up late in the first half to create some fireworks. With Mesa beginning to pull away from Glendale late in the first half, Glendale would ignite and come back in fine fashion. Glendale's Chandler Solis would catch fire, hitting two three-pointers, while Davonty Craven would finish on two different transition layups to put Glendale back into the contest.
After another three-point play by sophomore guard Christian Hakilimali, Glendale would take a 32-30 lead late in the first half.
But Mesa would come right back and finally end their scoring drought, after a three-pointer from the wing from talented 6-foot-6 post prospect Jamil Wilson-Jones. Then a tap-in 3-point play by Mesa's Austin Denham just before the half ended, and Mesa would take a narrow 36-34 lead into the half.
In the second half, both teams would struggle from the field for much of the second half, until Glendale would get it going once again, similar to the first half. Glendale would get to within 4-points of Mesa with 8 minutes left to play, and then Mesa would go on a big run of their own when it counted. After a transition layup by 6-foot-10 sophomore post Eddie Hardt (Seattle University signee), Mesa would jump out to a 66-54 lead with 6:56 left to play.
Then Mesa would close it out with consecutive baskets in transition from Michael Vos-Otin, as Mesa would win the ball game in fine fashion in front of their home crowd.
