This weekend in major national recruiting news, Hillcrest Prep's star 6-foot-9, 185-pound junior forward Jason Asemota decided to end his college recruitment - giving a big verbal commitment to Baylor University, the 2021 NCAA National Champions. Asemota, the #22 overall prospect in America's 2024 Class by ESPN, has been one of the hottest 2024 prospects in America for some time, as he received loads of Division-I offers over the past two years. This weekend, Asemota decided to end his college recruitment in surprising fashion - a decision that made national headlines on ESPN.
Asemota's decision to commit to Baylor and Head Coach Scott Drew and his basketball staff early, came as a surprise to basketball analysts across the country, since he had such a nice, long list of Division-I offers for himself. Asemota had received offers from Auburn, Ohio State, TCU, Florida, Oregon, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Nevada, UC Santa Barbara, UMASS and Stony Brook, before making his college decision this weekend.
Asemota is an impressive prospect with excellent size and versatility. He has really developed early on and has an advanced offensive skillset, which allows him to score effectively from inside and out. He has a solid shooting stroke with range on his shot and an ability to score off the dribble or from the standstill, catch-and-shoot position. Fundamentally sound, Asemota is a strong driver of the basketball as well at 6-9 in height, and is a strong finisher. He also possesses a good overall mid-range game. Asemota is a superb overall athletic talent, and has the ability to suggest that he should be able to play immediately and make an impact at the collegiate level.
A native of Lynn, MA, Asemota will be entering his junior season for Hillcrest Prep and will play his next two seasons at Hillcrest before playing for Baylor. Asemota spent his freshman season at Brewster Academy (NH).
Congratulations to Nick Weaver and the Hillcrest Prep program on this major commitment from Asemota.
