The state of Arizona's already talented 2021 Class of prospects received a nice shot in the arm recently when former Somerset Academy (NV) 6-foot-7 rising junior wing prospect Maxwell Lewis decided to transfer schools, and landed at AZ Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona. Lewis is a serious recruiting target for high-major division-I programs in the West, and he will be making a nice introduction into our new rankings for the class.

Since moving to the state, many college programs have been in contact with our staff about their strong interest in the gifted wing prospect. Lewis is coming off a strong spring performance where he proved his unlimited potential and ability to make plays. Lewis has college coaches excited about his promise and unique body and athleticism.

Lewis is a very unique talent with a super long, rangy frame that is very athletic and strong, which allows him to bounce off the floor quickly and play well above the rim. He can do things on the floor that many prospects his size cannot. He runs the floor hard and is an excellent finisher in transition, where he is able to dunk the basketball at a high level and over defenders. Lewis is a high-flying prospect and a joy to watch in the open court.

For his efforts in the recent ASU Team Camp, Lewis received a big offer from Head Coach Bob Hurley and the Arizona State University staff. The Sun Devils have made their commitment to Lewis, and so has DePaul. Many more college programs will soon follow pursuit, as Lewis begins to prepare for a big junior season where he will lead a very talented group of prospects for the AZ Compass Prep program on The Grind Session.

The exact reasons for why Lewis left his Nevada-based high school program to attend AZ Compass is unknown, but you can be sure a big part of the reason was to play with better overall talent and also to be recruited at a higher level. He will get both this high school season for AZ Compass, so it will be fun to watch Lewis perform in the state against top-rated competition, and also watch as Division-I programs look to land the unique level talent.

I will continue to follow the recruitment and progress of Lewis closely this summer, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.

Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Lewis is a very unique talent with a super long, rangy frame that is very athletic and strong, which allows him to bounce off the floor quickly and play well above the rim. He can do things on the floor that many prospects his size cannot. He runs the floor hard and is an excellent finisher in transition, where he is able to dunk the basketball at a high level and over defenders. Lewis is a high-flying prospect and a joy to watch in the open court. He is a skilled, bigger wing prospect with a good overall offensive repetoire, that allows him to make plays off the dribble and also score from the perimeter with a developing perimeter shooting stroke. He will need to add consistency to his shot to be much more of a threat offensively, but his length and athleticism allow him to make plays while slashing or in the open court. He is an active rebounder that rebounds outside of his area, but he could focus more in this area to raise his overall play. He is an active and very good shotblocker, one of his best attributes. A very good overall defender that shares a striking resemblance as a player physically to a young NBA superstar Scottie Pippen. Has unlimited potential over time.
