One of the top available prospects in Arizona's 2019 Class has been around for some time. Hillcrest Prep 6-foot-2 prep guard prospect Mike Rogers is one of the state's elite talents, although he has soared well below the recruiting radar for some time now. After moving from the state of New York years ago in search of a better life for himself, Rogers now is now doing a post-graduate year at Hillcrest Prep and will look to build on his overall college recruitment this season.
The road for Rogers has been a long and winding one. After first venturing to Cesar Chavez for three seasons, Rogers landed at CGM Prep Academy last season, before the school was ultimately shut down. Now a year later, Rogers will pick up his game at Hillcrest Prep in search of landing a division-I scholarship for himself and also improving his overall academics.
If Rogers can get it done this season in the classroom, then he would put himself in a very good position for the future, since Rogers is a very talented and gifted performer with a unique ability to handle the basketball and make plays for himself and others. Rogers is an absolute handful to stop defensively, and he proved his ability at a high level in the recent Arizona Preps Fall Showcase, where Rogers competed a great deal with Liberty Prep, and their talented guards.
Make no mistake about it, Rogers is a New York guard with loads of individual talent. He is very tough to stop off the dribble and can get to anywhere he wants to on the floor. He has also done an excellent job over the past year at losing weight and trimming up his body, which now allows him to make plays at a higher rate. He is also as tough as they come physically, which makes him even tougher to deal with.
I love Mike Rogers' potential as a player and believe this young man has a bright future ahead of him. He is definitely one of the better guard prospects in the West right now, and he should have a big season for himself.
Currently, it is still unclear as to who is actually recruiting Rogers but that is not a true indication of what this young man deserves, as he is worthy of division-I attention and an offer.
I will continue to follow the recruitment of Rogers closely, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Rogers is a very good point guard prospect with a nice body and size for the position. His body is really improved now after Rogers decided to trim himself down, which also proved serious commitment. A native of New York, Rogers is an explosive scorer with a nice ability to get his own shot and create for others. As a result, Rogers is difficult to defend one-on-one. He is a very good one-on-one player with the basketball in his hands, and does a great job of making plays off the dribble. He is a good shooter of the basketball also with nice range on his shot. He is a strong ball handler and passer and pushes the basketball up the floor. A very good one-on-one defender. As tough physically as they get. A solid and complete all-around guard prospect.
