New to the tournament field are the Thatcher Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles are coming off a successful 2021-2022 campaign where they earned the #1 seed in the 3A State Playoffs. Historically, the Lady Eagles are always competitive and it will be exciting to see them play against some of the top teams (regardless of classification) in the Summer Clash. Here is the conversation I had with Head Coach Dennis Griffin:
Q: What was your overall record last season?
A: We were 16-3 last season.
Q: How deep into the playoffs did you and your team go?
A: We came up short against Show Low in the Quarterfinals of the 3A State Tournament.
Q: How does it feel to be invited to the 2nd Annual Arizona Preps Summer Clash? What makes this event stand out to you and your girls?
A: We are very excited to be invited to participate in this event. This event stands out because we are able to compete against top competition, which should help us get ready for next season as well as look to make a deep playoff run.
Q: Who are your top players to watch for? Do they have college offers?
A: My top players to watch for include Haley Nicholas and Ashlyn Thompson. They are receiving college interests, but I am hoping this event can help their college recruitment take off.
Q: What is the goal for your team heading into this summer?
A: We want to use this summer to help us prepare for the regular season. We want to be tougher and more engaged, and I believe this event will be a great test for my team.
It is exciting to be bringing one of the top programs from Eastern Arizona to compete in the Clash. Our staff at Arizona Preps aims to discover the best talent in the state of Arizona, regardless of location. We are very grateful for the Lady Eagles of Thatcher to make the journey to compete in the 2nd Annual Summer Clash.
