The Mountain Ridge Lady Mountain Lions are making the trek from North Glendale. We appreciate all the teams who are willing to travel to compete in the best high school girls event to start the summer. Head Coach Jaime Carreon has done a great job in building a tough annual competitor in his Lady Mountain Lions, year in year out. I was able to catch up with him. Here is our Q&A Conversation:
Q: What was your overall record last season?
A: We finished with a 23-4 record last season.
Q: How deep into the playoffs did you and your team go?
A: We were able to host a first round game and get to the second round.
Q: How does it feel to be invited to the 2nd Annual Arizona Preps Summer Clash? What makes this event stand out to you and your girls?
A: It’s a great opportunity for our girls to play against tough competition and a great privilege to be considered and invited to this event.
Q: Who are your top players to watch for? Do they have college offers?
A: Miyah Verse has a bunch of D-1 offers. Janae Floyd, Hannah Uhlenhop and Alyssa Fraulino are our top returning players.
Q: What is the goal for your team heading into this summer?
A: We lost (5) great seniors, who were amazing leaders. We will be looking to see who fits into a leadership role as girls begin to find their place amongst our talent.
With the arrival of transfer Miyah Verse (pictured) and a stable of solid returning players, the Lady Mountain Lions will be a dark horse competitor in 6A next season. Coach Carreon is an excellent motivator and gets his kids to compete hard. We are pleased and excited to have the Lady Mountain Lions compete in the Summer Clash.
