We continue our Summer Clash Team Preview Series with the Lady Jaguars of Canyon View High School. The Lady Jaguars are one of the new high schools in the AIA. Despite being a new high school, Head Coach Desirae Carranza has her team playing at a very high level. Here is the Q&A from our conversation:
Q: What was your overall record last season?
A: Our team finished with a 22-3 record for the 2021-2022 season.
Q: How deep into the playoffs did you and your team go?
A: We lost in the quarterfinals to Millennium, with Millennium being the only team we lost to this past year. Millennium went on to win the 5A State Championship.
Q: How does it feel to be invited to the 2nd Annual Arizona Preps Summer Clash? What makes this event stand out to you and your girls?
A: It feels great to be invited to the tournament. We have a very talented group of players at Canyon View and we are excited to showcase some of that.
Q: Who are your top players to watch for? Do they have college offers?
A: Junior Madison Reibel is a top player to watch for along with a very talented group of incoming freshmen. We are excited to have the opportunity to play in front of college coaches and scouts for this event.
Q: What is the goal for your team heading into this summer?
A: Our goal is to build upon our returning players and get our incoming freshmen acclimated to the varsity level of basketball.
Coach Carranza is doing a phenomenal job in the West Valley. Arizona has become a hotbed for basketball talent, and the result is more programs are stepping up to be more competitive than ever before. We are excited to have the Lady Jaguars compete in this year’s Summer Clash.
