Prescott High School's star 6-foot senior point guard Uriah Tenette is one of the most dynamic scorers in Arizona high school basketball history. A gifted athlete and explosive playmaker, Tenette led the state in scoring during his junior season and capped off his career by finishing among the top five all-time scorers in Arizona. Tenette had originally committed to the University of California San Diego (UCSD), but after UCSD’s head coach accepted a new position at the University of New Mexico this weekend, Tenette has decided to reopen his college recruitment.
His senior season was nothing short of elite. In (29) games, Tenette averaged 29.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists per contest. He also proved to be one of the most efficient free-throw shooters in the country, making 211 free throws—good for 14th nationally and first in both Arizona and the 4A Division.
Widely regarded as one of the most athletic guards in America, Tenette high-flying ability and quickness have made him a nightmare for defenders. He delivered a standout performance against one of the nation's elite prospects, McDonald's All-American Alijah Arenas, this season. After his recent exploits in a head-to-head match-up with Arenas, he will now be remembered nationally, as well as locally, for a tremendous high school career, and also an epic and memorable individual performance. Tenette's 54 point explosion against Arenas in a nationally watched matchup, helped elevate his profile on the national stage.
Now back on the recruiting trail, Tenette's combination of elite athleticism, scoring ability, and court vision makes him one of the most sought-after unsigned seniors in the country. With his recruitment wide open, college programs across the nation are expected to take a hard look at one of Arizona’s finest, but I personally would like to see him at New Mexico with the UCSD staff, as they wanted him when many others did not. That staff also really understands building a winning culture and the benefits of having a guard like Uriah.
Stay tuned, and I look forward to bringing you any recruiting updates as they continue to develop.
