The 2nd Day of the Tribal Athletics West Coast Desert Individual Showcase was just as electric as the first day. Prospects were excited to compete in five-on-five games. It was an amazing display of talent, as there were a lot of skilled guard prospects who thrived in a fast-paced transition style of play. The result was the emerging of other hidden gems.
Here are the top prospects from day two of the event . . .
Jasmyn Torres 2024 5’3 Point Guard (Fernley, NV) - Torres (pictured) immediately jumped out at the opportunity to compete. Torres has nice ball-handling skills. Her ability to break down defenders is amazing despite being only a freshmen. She has elite vision and decision-making skills and an excellent motor on both ends of the floor. I like her work ethic on defense, as she has a fantastic motor. Torres is an exciting prospect to watch in the future and she has a high ceiling. Despite her size she is a legitimate Division-I prospect with a lot of upside.
Sage Begay 2023 5’8 Combo Guard (Winslow, AZ) - Begay impressed with her versatility to play multiple positions. She cleans the glass exceptionally well on both ends of the floor. She is an elite defender, which shows a high IQ. She is very crafty with her great anticipation to pick a lot of pockets. Offensively, she has great range - showing she can score at the long, mid and inside range (great finishing skills). She has great vision and decision- making, as she looks to create scoring opportunities for her teammates.
Mikeya Sheppard 2021 5’2 Guard (Tuba City, AZ) - Sheppard impressed with her physical-uptempo style of play. The guard is a well-rounded scorer, as she can hit from mid and long range. She has great finishing ability and thrives in transition offense. Defensively, she is very aggressive and has a great motor. College coaches take note.
Tse Nizhoni Morgan 2022 6’0 Forward (Von Ormy, TX) - Morgan put on an impressive performance and she has great size and athletic. She impressed me with her guard skills despite naturally playing the forward position. She has a solid presence inside and cleans the glass well. She possesses a nice shooting stroke and a great mid-range game. I project her as a low Division-I prospect though she has a high ceiling as she is only a junior.
Torrance Begay 2021 6’0 Forward (Page, AZ) - A nice forward prospect who cleans the glass on both ends. She is a good inside presence, as she defends the post pretty well. She thrives in transition, as she sees the floor well and looks to push the ball upcourt. She scores well at the low post and converts mid-range jumpers. A sleeper prospect with tremendous upside.
Jolie King 2022 5’5 Guard (Mesa, AZ) - King impressed with her hustle and work ethic on both ends of the floor. A solid guard prospect with good ball handling. She likes to drive and plays very tough. She has a nice shooting stroke as well and a nice mid-range game. I like her anticipation on defense, as she has a great ability to disrupt the passing lanes.
Kelly Smith 2021 5’7 Guard (Ganado, AZ) - An athletic guard prospect with a nice shooting stroke. She has a fantastic motor as she gets up and down the court and plays at a high intensity. I like her vision and decision making. She has good facilitation skills and looks to get her teammates involved on the offensive end. College coaches take note she is a sleeper prospect with a solid platform to thrive.
