San Tan Charter High School has quickly established itself as one of the most dominant basketball programs in the state of Arizona. The program has enjoyed tremendous success and continues to build a reputation as a basketball powerhouse, developing talented prospects while competing for state championships. Coming off an impressive 24–3 season that saw the program capture the Arizona 2A State Championship with a 53–43 victory over Valley Christian, San Tan Charter appears poised for another tremendous season. The defending state champions have reloaded with an impressive collection of talent, including the addition of talented 6-foot-9 senior forward Terrence Richardson, a native of Chicago, Illinois, who has made an immediate impact since transferring to the program.

Richardson, one of the state’s more intriguing prospects in the 2027 class, recently gave a verbal commitment to the University of Wyoming and Head Coach Sundance Wicks, providing the Cowboys with an excellent recruiting addition. Wicks has strong local ties to the valley and so this is an excellent commitment for the Wyoming program.

I had the opportunity to evaluate Richardson extensively over the past two months, while watching him compete in the AZ Compass Prep Fall League, where he quickly emerged as one of the league's top overall performers. Richardson possesses excellent length, athleticism and versatility for his size. At 6-foot-9, he is an impressive physical presence who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Defensively, Richardson is an excellent shot-blocker who changes and alters shots consistently around the basket. His length, mobility and timing make him a formidable presence in the paint.

Offensively, Richardson is a strong finisher around the basket who plays above the rim and can score effectively inside. He also possesses the ability to step away from the basket and make plays offensively, giving him excellent versatility as a developing prospect. What impressed me most about Richardson was his overall activity level, willingness to compete and ability to impact the game without necessarily having plays called for him. He runs the floor extremely well, competes hard and possesses the kind of physical tools that college coaches covet. Richardson still has considerable room for continued development, which makes his long-term potential especially intriguing. His impressive performances throughout the fall helped him attract the attention of Wyoming’s coaching staff, resulting in a scholarship offer and his subsequent commitment to the Cowboys.

Wyoming Head Coach Sundance Wicks has strong connections to the state of Arizona, having previously lived in the state and worked extensively in player development before advancing through the college coaching ranks. Those Arizona connections have helped Wicks remain familiar with the state’s basketball talent, and the addition of Richardson represents another excellent recruiting opportunity for the Wyoming program.

For Richardson, the commitment provides an opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division-I level in the Mountain West Conference, while continuing to develop his considerable potential.

Richardson’s arrival provides a tremendous boost to a San Tan Charter basketball program that is coming off an outstanding championship season. The talented forward joins an impressive roster that features senior guard Peyton Lubash, one of Arizona’s premier perimeter shooters and offensive scoring threats. Lubash’s ability to score from the perimeter, combined with Richardson’s athleticism, size and interior presence, should provide San Tan Charter with one of the state’s more formidable inside-outside combinations.

The program also returns talented 6-foot-1 senior guard Jace Benjamin, another excellent performer who recently received a college scholarship offer from Embry-Riddle University. Benjamin is expected to have a big senior season and should play an instrumental role in the team’s success. His talent and experience provide San Tan Charter with another important weapon in an already impressive backcourt.

With Lubash providing excellent perimeter scoring, Benjamin adding another talented presence in the backcourt, and Richardson bringing tremendous size, athleticism and versatility to the frontcourt, San Tan Charter possesses one of the most formidable lineups in the 2A Division.

The addition of Richardson gives the program another dimension offensively and defensively, while providing the team with a legitimate shot-blocking presence around the basket.

After evaluating San Tan Charter throughout the fall, I believe this year’s team has an excellent opportunity to repeat as 2A State Champions. The program has established a winning culture, possesses excellent talent and now has the addition of a Division I-caliber prospect who has made an immediate impact.

Richardson is an excellent addition to Arizona’s 2027 recruiting class and a very nice pickup for the University of Wyoming. His combination of size, athleticism, defensive ability and developing offensive skills gives him an opportunity to become a productive player at the Division I level. I expect Richardson to have an excellent senior season and play an instrumental role in San Tan Charter’s pursuit of another state championship.

With Richardson, Lubash and Benjamin leading the way, San Tan Charter is set to have a tremendous high school season.
