Millennium High School’s basketball program has long stood as a powerhouse in Arizona, and under the leadership of Head Coach Ty Amundsen, the Tigers continue to set the standard for excellence. In the process, the program has become a Nike Elite High School program. With Amundsen at the helm, Millennium has compiled an impressive 138-51 overall record and captured two 5A State Championships along with an Open Division State Championship. A proven winner with a championship pedigree, Amundsen also achieved three state titles at Estrella Foothills High School, while also making deep playoff runs at St. Mary’s HS, before taking over Millennium. Amundsen has elevated Millennium HS into one of the premier programs in the West.
This upcoming season, Millennium is reloading in a major way, and the program might be more talented than ever before. The Tigers return superstar 6-foot-6 senior guard Cameron Holmes, one of the top prospects nationally in the 2026 class. Holmes is currently ranked No. 23 in the country by ESPN and holds offers from North Carolina, Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, Georgetown, Oregon, Oklahoma and many others. With his smooth perimeter game and elite scoring ability, Holmes is a strong candidate to be a McDonald’s All-American during his senior year.
Millennium also recently added one of the top players in the country from the 2028 class - 6-foot-5 rising sophomore guard Adan Diggs. Regarded as a top-10 national prospect by ESPN, Diggs has exploded in recruiting circles and already holds offers from Arizona, LSU, Oregon, West Virginia and many other high-major programs. He brings elite athleticism, versatility, and scoring instincts to a team already stacked with talent. Diggs was tremendous in Millennium’s undefeated summer run at the Section 7 tournament, and is expected to have a huge sophomore season for Millennium.
Joining Holmes and Diggs next season, will be 6-foot-5 junior forward transfer DJ Spencer, who transferred this summer from Desert Vista High School. Spencer has had an excellent spring and summer for himself, and has emerged as one of the top 2027 prospects in the West. Last season, Spencer averaged 14.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per/game. Spencer is a physical performer that has excellent versatility as a player who rebounds, defends, and finishes strong around the rim, while also showing perimeter scoring ability. Spencer made a name for himself this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with Vegas Elite (NV) club program - cementing himself as a breakout national talent.
These new additions will team up with returning players like JT Amundsen (Northern Arizona commit), a skilled senior guard who recently committed to Northern Arizona University. Amundsen has been a steady contributor throughout his career and serves as a coach on the floor with his high IQ and leadership. 6-foot-1 junior guard Adrian Higuera also returns and saw valuable minutes last season, giving the Tigers even more backcourt depth.
Millennium boasts not only elite talent but also some of the best facilities in the state, which complement its rigorous national schedule - the best national schedule ever seen by an Arizona high school program, now that Millennium is featured as a Nike Elite high school program. This fall and winter, the Tigers will take on top competition from around the country, giving their players maximum exposure and continuing to raise the national profile of Arizona basketball.
The West Valley hasn’t traditionally been known for producing dominant high school programs, but Coach Amundsen has changed that narrative. He’s built a model of consistency and excellence at Millennium, and with this year’s group, the Tigers look to be the favorites for another 6A state title, and potentially another Open Division State Championship.
With elite players, strong leadership, and a winning culture already in place, this may be the most talented team Millennium has ever had. And the best may still be yet to come.
