Willow Canyon High School has become a basketball powerhouse in the state. Head Coach Joe Colletti and his coaching staff have worked very hard, and this season the basketball program experienced an historic season, thanks in large part to the emergence of star freshman point guard Maurice Carter. Standing at 6-foot, 170-pounds, Carter showcased exceptional talent and leadership, guiding his program to a remarkable 22-5 record on the season - the best in the school’s history.

Carter’s freshman campaign was nothing short of spectacular, as he averaged some of the best numbers in the country as a mere freshman - 18.9 points and 3.4 assists per game, ranking among the top freshman scorers in Arizona. His scoring prowess was highlighted by a season-high 33-point performance in an overtime victory against Cienega. Throughout the season, he consistently delivered, recording (26) games with double-digit points.

His outstanding play earned him First Team All-5A Division honors, a testament to his impact on the court and his role in Willow Canyon’s unprecedented success. Carter’s ability to perform under pressure and lead his team as a freshman underscores his potential as one of the elite players in Arizona’s 2028 class.

Beyond his high school achievements, Carter is set to further his development this spring and summer with Arizona Unity, a premier Nike-sponsored club program renowned for nurturing Division-I talent. Competing with Arizona Unity’s 15-and-under team this spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, he aims to refine his skills and gain exposure on a national stage.

Carter is already receiving serious Division-I attention for his exploits on and off the court, as he recently received a big offer from Cal, with many more offers on the horizon for him, especially while playing for a loaded AZ Unity team and program this club season.

Maurice Carter’s freshman season has laid a strong foundation for a promising basketball career. As he continues to grow and compete at higher levels this spring and summer, he remains a player to watch in Arizona’s overall basketball landscape, and will look to become one of the top prospects in America's loaded 2028 Class.

I look forward to watching Carter continue to develop as a player, and also watch his college recruitment begin to soar while playing for AZ Unity.
