One of the top point guard prospects in Arizona's 2023 Class is ready to have a breakout season for himself. Ironwood High School's 5-foot-11 rising senior point guard Leonard Romayor has had to overcome some obstacles in his short high school career. His senior season will be a big one for him and his team, as he will have a full season to prove his value and ability to play the game at a high level. The Ironwood team is loaded with talent and will have a chance to win it all, again, in 2023.
Romayor is coming off a strong performance in the Section 7 Event, where he made good decisions with the basketball and made some big shots for his team in the event. Romayor showed excellent toughness and poise from the point guard position, and now looks primed and ready to have a breakout season for terrific Head Coach Jordan Augustine. The Ironwood program has a lot of talented athletes this season, and so the leadership provided by Romayor will be essential in this team's success for next season.
Romayor began his playing career at Brophy Prep, where he was a contributor for a talented Brophy Prep team as a sophomore. After a transfer to Ironwood High School for his junior season last year, Romayor would miss the first (9) games of the season, due to AIA transfer rules. This season, Romayor would have a full season to lead the Ironwood ball club.
Romayor is a nice guard prospect in the state's 2023 Class, and has been for several years, since I first saw him competing at a high level as a freshman during the COVID-pandemic breakout during the spring of 2020. While he is a smaller guard prospect, he has the quickness and skillset to make an impact next high school season, and lead Ironwood to a very successful season.
Romayor is a pass-first point guard prospect that enjoys getting his teammates involved. He has command-presence on the floor with the basketball in his hands, and makes players around him better, as he advances the court with the pass and also leads his teammates with his passes. He pushes the basketball hard up the floor and is always looking to run, for easy scoring opportunities. He is a strong driver and finisher, and will only continue to improve in this area a great deal over time, as he matures physically and gains more physical strength and size. He has a nice shooting stroke with range and has nice form on his shot. He has a good overall mid-range game and is not afraid to mix it up against bigger guards. He is a strong defender with quick hands and feet, and is able to keep his man in front of him. He plays passing lanes quite well and is very quick to the ball.
Currently, Romayor does not have any offers to his credit, but he would be an excellent guard prospect for a smaller college program looking for immediate point guard play.
Romayor is also an excellent student and carries a 3.85 CUM GPA. He plans to major in sports or business management. Romayor is also a fine young man with a great attitude, on and off the floor.
