One of the biggest storylines in Arizona basketball and America became official on Thursday, as Mesa High School superstar guard Kyi Kyi Miles has announced his transfer to AZ Compass Prep, where he will now compete on the prestigious Nike EYBL Scholastic circuit against many of the top high school basketball programs in America. The move marks a major turning point in the young star’s already remarkable basketball journey, as Miles leaves the AIA and Arizona high school basketball scene after two sensational sophomore seasons at Mesa High School, to now return to the national prep basketball spotlight after once attending AZ Compass Prep as a middle school prospect.
Miles is currently rated by ESPN as the No. 1 overall point guard prospect in America’s 2028 class. He now returns to AZ Compass Prep after previously playing for the program in middle school. Miles previously left Compass Prep for Mesa High School, where he turned in two significant seasons under Head Coach Scott Stansberry and his staff.
After being selected as the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year after a terrific freshman season, Miles entered his sophomore season with immense expectations. As a freshman, he led Mesa High School to a 6A State Championship runner-up finish, instantly placing himself among the elite young prospects in America. During his sophomore season, Miles again helped lead Mesa High School all the way to the Arizona 6A State Championship game, before the Jackrabbits eventually fell to state champion Liberty High School in the title game. Despite the heartbreaking finish, Miles firmly established himself as one of the elite young prospects in America with his incredible production, maturity, confidence, and ability to dominate games at a very young age.
Statistically, he was phenomenal in his sophomore season. Miles is averaged an eye-popping 26.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals per game. He nearly averaged a triple-double, and did so against top-tier 6A competition in Arizona. Miles wasn't just consistent, he was explosive. He poured in 40 points in a 79-38 victory over Queen Creek High School, 40 points in a dominant win over Arcadia High School, 41 points in a hard-fought 68-64 win over Highland High School, 47 points (his biggest performance of the season) in a 92-58 win over Dobson High School, 40 points in an 80-60 victory over Skyline High School, and, most recently, on Thursday evening, Miles delivered another masterful performance - scoring 33 points on 15-of-23 shooting to lead Mesa to a convincing 66-45 victory over rival, Mesa Mountain View High School.Miles turned in one dominant performance after another throughout the season, scoring 40 points or more numerous times while proving himself as one of the most explosive scorers in the country, regardless of class. His combination of scoring ability, elite handle, basketball IQ, court vision, athleticism, and poise has made him one of the most heavily recruited young players in the nation.
Miles already holds an impressive list of Division-I offers from such schools as Kansas, Texas, TCU, North Carolina State, Kansas, Stanford, Arizona State, Creighton, Texas Tech, Providence, Cal, UNLV, Pepperdine, New Mexico, San Diego, San Diego State, UT-Arlington, Grand Canyon, San Jose State, University of San Francisco, Florida A&M and Sacramento State.
Now, Miles will take the next major step in his development while competing nightly against elite national competition on the Nike EYBL Scholastic circuit - a move that should only continue to accelerate his rise as one of the premier young basketball talents in America.
Miles also recently announced that he will now be playing with Paul George Elite on the Nike EYBL Circuit this spring and summer.
For AZ Compass Prep, the addition of Miles is monumental. The program once again adds another elite-level national prospect to its roster, and instantly becomes even more dangerous on the national prep basketball scene. For Arizona basketball, it is another reminder that the state continues to produce some of the best young talent in the entire country. Miles will still represent the state of Arizona, but now he will be doing it in the prep school ranks.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Miles is a rare find as he has excellent size as a point guard prospect - standing at 6-4 in height with a long, rangy physical frame. He has an excellent handle of the basketball and feel for the game, a lost art among today's players. As a result he makes players around him better with the ball in his hands, and he enjoys making the pass. He is a floor general with the ball and is vocal on the floor, also a nice attribute. He is an exceptional scorer that can score at all (3) levels, with a pure shooting stroke that has nice range on his shot. He will only become much more effective over time in all facets of his game, as he continues to mature and get stronger physically, but he has played up throughout his life and against top-rated competition, which has benefited him a great deal already as a player. Miles lets the game come to him and he does not force the action often. He has command presence on the basketball court. Miles is next in line among young national elite-level prospects, and he is part of a very loaded 2028 Class in the state of Arizona and nationally. Considered as the best PG prospect in America's 2028 Class. A future pro prospect.
