Hillcrest Prep's terrific star 6-foot-8, 190-pound senior wing Jason Asemota (Baylor University commit) is ranked among the elite national prospects in America's 2024 Class. Asemota gave a big and early college decision when he decided to verbal to Baylor University last year, a nice commitment for one of the nation's elite overall prospects. Asemota is coming off another strong spring and summer for himself, and now will enter his senior season for Hillcrest Prep in his final season of prep basketball - highly regarded nationally and looking to solidify and improve his individual player ranking for the nation's 2024 Class.
Asemota has been highly regarded nationally for a long time, since before ever coming to Hillcrest Prep. Since playing for the highly regarded Hillcrest Prep program, Asemota has received rave reviews by national scouts and media consistently throughout the years. He is currently rated by ESPN as the nation's #26 overall prospect, and will look to maintain or even improve his national ranking with a strong senior season for himself. Asemota will be a man on a mission this prep season - looking to lead the Hillcrest Prep program with many new faces. The program recently lost star 6-foot-11 senior post Aiden Sherrill to transfer to Prolific Prep (CA), and also previously lost the services of 6-foot-11 junior Jayden Quaintance (Word of God Christian Academy). Asemota will look to lead this year's version of Hillcrest Prep in many different ways.
A native of Lynn, MA, Asemota spent his freshman season at Brewster Academy (NH). Asemota's decision to commit to Baylor and Head Coach Scott Drew and his basketball staff early, came as a surprise to basketball analysts across the country, and it was a big deal for Asemota. It has been impressive to see that Baylor has held Asemota's commitment for a year now.
Asemota is coming off another good showing this spring and summer for himself - proving himself as an elite-level talent while playing on the national club circuit. Last season he competed all season on the OTE Elite circuit with Hillcrest Prep, so high school competition is almost nothing for Asemota. He has always competed against older competition and been very successful doing so. Asemota is a very skilled athletic talent with excellent size and versatility as a bigger wing. His skillset and ability to score should benefit him a great deal in college in the BIG 12 Conference. He will also need to focus defensively as well for Baylor, to make an impact for the highly successful program as a freshman. This senior season will be very important to him as he prepares to enter college, and also for his development as a player at the professional level over time.
Asemota has been a consistent top performer throughout his high school career. This senior season for him will be very important in preparing him for his future in the sport, as we prepares for an exciting basketball future ahead of him. I look forward to watching him continue to blossom, as he finishes off an excellent high school career for himself.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Asemota is an impressive prospect with excellent size and versatility. He really developed early on, and has an advanced offensive skillset, which allows him to score effectively from inside and out. He has a nice shooting stroke with range on his shot, and an ability to score off the dribble or from the standstill, catch-and-shoot position. Fundamentally sound, Asemota is a strong driver of the basketball as well at 6-8 in height, and is a strong finisher. He also possesses a good overall mid-range game. A good rebounder from the wing position. A solid defender that plays passing lanes. Asemota is a superb overall athletic talent, and has the ability to suggest that he should be able to play immediately and make an impact at the collegiate level. Gave an early verbal commitment at the beginning of his junior season to Baylor.
