Pima College has become the standard for junior college basketball in Arizona, as the program has consistently won at a very high level under the strong leadership of Head Coach Brian Peabody and his hard-working coaching staff. The program is off to another undefeated start to the season, and has numerous college prospects on their roster that college coaches at many different levels need to take a very hard look at. 6-foot-6, 200-pound talented sophomore Isaac Johnson is one of the most intriguing juco prospects in the country, and is making waves this season. As one of the top overall prospects in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) this season, Johnson is having a tremendous sophomore season and is one of the top prospects in our conference that college programs need to pursue this spring.
Originally from Oakland, California, Johnson has absolutely soared under the recruiting radar up to now, while leading #7 nationally ranked Pima College to an undefeated 17-0 record this season. Johnson is having a phenomenal sophomore year and is one of the league leaders in several statistical categories in the conference. He currently averages 18.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting an eye-popping 74.4% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range. His efficiency is among the best in junior college basketball nationwide, and he’s known for taking excellent shots within the flow of the offense, finishing strong, and using his length and athleticism to make plays. He’s also incredibly coachable and has been a bright spot for Coach Brian Peabody and his staff.
Last season, Isaac was a key contributor to a terrific Pima team that finished 35-1 on the season, and with a #3 overall national ranking among Division-II programs. Now, as a team captain, he’s taken on an even bigger leadership role this season, and is having an outstanding season that should put him on the radar of college recruiters at any level.
In addition to his athletic talents, Isaac plans to major in liberal arts, showing his commitment to academics as well. Overall, he’s a winner who does whatever it takes to help his team succeed, and college coaches would be wise to take a serious look at him this spring.
I look forward to watching Johnson for the remainder of the junior college season, as college programs begin to turn their focus and attention to Johnson and other top-rated 2026 prospects in the junior college ranks nationally. This young man should have a very nice ending to his terrific career for the Aztecs this spring - ending in a Division-I college scholarship.
Arizona Preps Scouting Report: Isaac Johnson is a very good looking juco prospect with excellent length of body and athleticism, which allows him to make plays most cannot and quite efficiently. Johnson is among the efficient players and scorers in the country, and he shoots a very high percentage from the field, as he does not waist dribbles or movement, and simply makes plays. A strong finisher in traffic and especially in the open floor. An excellent slasher and finisher with great body control. Has a 7-foot wingspan. An good shooter from mid-range and a solid shooter from three-point distance, but still needs consistency from longer ranges, which will make him more effective offensively over time. Can score inside and out, and does not need the ball to impact the game offensively. A strong overall defender. An excellent shot-blocker. Competes hard. A winner and a great teammate. An excellent sleeper prospect.
