It was an exciting match-up between two of the state’s top teams this season from the Division-I Class, as part of the Section-I tournament playoffs. Sunnyslope High School (26-4) has had a terrific season thus far, while Pinnacle (20-8) has not had the season that they envisioned before the season, but are looking to put it all together at the right time. Saturday’s match-up between these two teams also featured two former college teammates, as the state’s most impressive post talent, Sunnyslope’s 6-foot-10 senior post Michael Humphrey (Stanford signee), and Pinnacle’s 6-foot-5 senior guard/forward Dorian Pickens (Stanford signee) would face off…

Desert Ridge High School (16-10) has been up and down this high school season, but when the team has been good they have been really good. The success of the team this season has primarily rested on the shoulders of two players – ultra-talented 6-foot-3 senior guard Hunter Thomas (21.8 ppg), the team’s leading scorer, and 6-foot-4 sophomore combo-forward Teddy Allen. After a dismal 9-16 performance last season, head coach Greg Ream has led this team to a 16-10 overall record this high school season, and an opportunity to compete in the Division-I state playoffs. When the team has been at…
Desert Vista High School’s girl’s program has been one of the top girl’s programs in the state for some time, but this season, after the addition of transfer junior guard Sabrina Haines to the program, the Thunder have completely rolled through the competition. Desert Vista (25-1) is the state’s top team this season in the Division-I Class, and any other class for that matter. Led by talented head coach Jontar Coleman, the combination of a trio of division-I prospects for Desert Vista has been too much for opposing teams in the state. 5-foot-7 senior point guard Emily Wolph (Santa Clara signee), 6-foot-4 junior…
Queen Creek High School (17-7) is having a strong season this year – filled with talented prospects that have proven that they can play with anyone in the state. Head coach Troy Gibson is a talented head coach and his team exemplifies his hard-working and tough style of coaching. After recently winning 6 games in a row on the season, the team has recently lost a few nail-biters. Queen Creek was playing their best basketball of the season early this year, before they lost their starting senior combo-guard, 6-foot-1 senior Blake Williams, to an injury. After losing Williams, the team lost…
Another one of the state’s top senior prospects is now off the recruiting board, as Queen Creek High School’s talented 6-foot-2 senior guard prospect Carter Wilson has found a quality home for himself in the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC), and he didn’t have to go too far to do it. After looking over his options, Wilson has given a verbal commitment to Arizona Christian University, a local NAIA basketball program that is on the rise. Head Coach Jeff Rutter and his men’s basketball staff showed early recruiting interest in the talented guard prospect, and were able to convince him to get…
The past month has been a whirlwind in the college recruitment of Westwind Prep Academy 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior combo-guard prospect Lyrik Shreiner. After numerous recent strong performances at Westwind Prep, Shreiner has recently saw his recruiting stock begin to soar – reeling in college recruiting interest from numerous high-major division-I programs. With many college programs now looking to recruit Shreiner, the first school to show him serious attention was current national champion, University of Louisville. Shreiner would take his first official recruiting visit this weekend to Louisville, Kentucky, where he took in all that the elite college program could offer him. While…
For Desert Mountain High School’s 5-foot-11 senior point guard Gino Littles, it has been a long road filled with hard work and determination. While competing with many of the state’s top overall prospects over the years, Littles has waited for his opportunity to flourish. The son of former ABA player and also NBA coach Gene Littles, Gino has emerged over the past year as a serious player and a college prospect. I first noticed Littles serious development last spring and summer on the AAU/club circuit, while playing for his club program the Arizona Stars. Littles showed that he had the ability…
